What is this noise?

05 G35 Sedan 6MT - 50k miles

Mind you it's a little louder then it seems in the video.

It comes and goes for about the first 5 minutes of driving and then goes away completely.

It only lasts in about 5 second spurts. It's not continuous while driving.

There are no vibrations or effects on driving so I don't think it's valves or compression rod.

Sometimes it happens more while shifting but sometimes just when driving so I don't think it's throwout bearing.

Any thoughts?

It's impossible for me to even guess from that video. Sorry. More than a 4.5 second clip might help.

It's always the same exact sound. Any longer and I couldn't get it off my phone, sorry Basically, it's that 5 second sound, nothing for 30 seconds, that sound again, rinse repeat till it goes away for good in about 5 minutes. I'll try shooting again in low res so the video isn't so big and I can upload like 30 seconds.

Does it increase with speed or maintain constant with time?

Constant. The sound doesn't speed up if my RPM's do. Nor does it happen more often.
And while I say it lasts for 5 seconds and goes away for 30, it's not exactly that rhythmic. It can last for 2 seconds or 8, and come every 10 seconds or 30 seconds. But after about 5 minutes of driving it goes away completely.

Guy at work has a good theory after listening to the tape and hearing the symptoms. Hydraulic lifters. Time for an oil change. And yeah it's record heat here at 100+ so....
