Front Passenger seat belt issue

Hey all, I have a really odd question about the passenger seat belt. I have a 06x and I have noticed that the passenger seat belt, when retracted is pointing the wrong way (at least to my knowledge it is).

What I mean is that when retracted and not twists in the belt, the metal portion of the buckle points toward the outside of the car, not toward the seat. This means that for the passenger to buckle in, the belt needs a 180 degree twist to latch.

Seems like a safety issue, the down side is that I live a minimum two hours from the closest dealer. Anyone know if this is an easy fix or should I schedule a service appointment? Or am I just crazy for thinking it is wrong?

Thanks in advance!

I have an 06 G35x and the passenger buckle has the metal toward the inside of the car. I would try and spin it myself. If you cant do it I would just let it be. I don't really foresee a safety issue.

Does you passenger airbag light work correctly (next to the climate control screen)? Mine is pretty much always off, even if the seat is empty.

I also have an '06x and mine faces in towards the car.

I think you can just fold the belt in half and spin it on the belt. Shouldn't require a dealer visit

Thanks guys! After about 15 minutes of work, I was able to get it turned around, involved a lot of folding of the belt and working the buckle up and down the belt to progress the fold. Again, thanks to both of you!

Did you have the recall work done on your passenger occupant sensor? From my understanding the light should come on if the seat is empty and until a certain weight threshold is met.

I doubt it had the airbag recall done. I bought the car a couple of months ago with 50k miles on it. Is there a limit on mileage for when the recall can be done?

My light is always off. I thought it was strange and took it to the dealer twice. The first time they replaced my entire passenger seat and it still did it. The second time, they said it was normal.

My light comes on if i lean over onto the pass seat and press down with maybe 30-40 pouns of pressure. Then the light pops on until i release. So if i put a heavy box there it will come on.

So it seems to work that way, and i scored a new seat that barely gets sat in..lol

The best way to find out if you have had the recall done is to call the nearest stealership and give them your VIN number, they can tell you if it is done or not I believe.
