Broken Exhaust/Muffler part. Please help

So I have had this sort of rattle for about 3 weeks now under my car...I didn't think much of it and was going to check it when i finally did my oil change.

I just finished changing my oil and did some investigation and found that the part that connects to the muffler was severely rusted and basically just hanging there with a gap in between. Freaked me out a little that i had been driving this whole time with it.

Other than the rattle, car has been solid as ever, couldn't even feel any power loss or anything like that.

A couple of questions,

Can it be fixed?

Do i need to replace something?

What needs to be replaced?

How much am i looking it, for either fixing or replacing at a shop?

Is there anything i can do to prevent this from happening again? I noticed i had several rusted parts down there that didn't look too good. Maybe something in a can i can spray there to prevent or slow down rust damage?

Thank you!!

looks like it just rusted lol you can take it to a muffler shop and they can chop it and re-weld the pipe easily...it will not cost much at all, i say maybe 40 bucks at the most

It's a little clear in the 2nd picture but its wide open.,..huge gap in between. The screws are all rusted in and its broken off at that joint.

Thanks for the response..I hope it only costs as much as u say!

yea they can chop that whole piece off and take a little piece of pipe and just weld it on to seal it off and connect the muffler...easy job

Time for the exhaust shop... Should take less than an hour to fix depending on how they go about it. I doubt you'll be out $80 TOPs.
