question about 2005 G35x stock rim
Hey folks,
Did some searches here but couldnt find anything conclusive. Whats the biggest tire size you can run on the 2005 G35x sedan 17" rim.
Will a 235/50/70 tire fit safely??
Thanks in advance..

If I have heard of somebody running a 235 on the stock 17x7. I don't know if it had any negative effects, be sure to drop down to a 50 or even 45 series.
We call that fresh outta the factory haha.
OP, yes you COULD run them but they are slightly larger than OEM and I would suggest running a 235/45 or 225/50 max.

Since its an x, you drive on snow quite a bit. A wider tire increases the chances of sliding due to the weight of the car being distributed over a slightly larger surface area. Ideally for snow conditions you want a narrower tire therefore.I would stick with the 215.
I'm running a 235/50/17 summer tire on a 7.5" rim that fits perfect. It's the same OD as the stock 215/55/17. You could probably squeeze the 235/50 on the stock rim but you might see a little bulging on the side walls.
When I wear out my summer tires, I plan to go to 225/55/17's. The X is geared on the low side and I think it would benifit from taller tires.

The typicAl guideLine is to run a tire 2in wider than the rim. So, for a 7" rim, you want to run a 9" tire.
9" is 228mm, so a 225 would be ideal, but you usually have a slight variance of say 215-235 or so.
I've run 275's on an 8" wide rim, but the sidewall bulge was so big handling suffered as the sidewall would roll over on itself in hard turns. With the car parked, I could rock the car side to side a good bit on sidewall flex alone

215/55-17 is the stock size, and is 26.3" in diameter. You can run these sizes on an X.
215/55-17 - 26.3" diameter, stock size
235/50-17 - 26.3" diameter (technically, 26.25", but basically stock)
225/55-17 - 26.7" diameter, 1.6% larger than stock (I run this size on my winter tires)
225/50-17 - 25.9" diameter, 1.7% smaller than stock
That last size can be run, but why run a smaller tire on a car that already has a large tire gap? And theoretically, you could run a 245/50-17 (26.7"), but you shouldn't run a 245 width on a 7" wheel.
He doesn't drive on snow quite a bit because it's an X, he drives on snow quite a bit because he lives in Toronto.
