I worry about the width of the 235/50 tire...I think i will play it safe and get the 225 and if i need to just get a small spacer to make it flush with that walls. I drive an X because of both reasons i live in toronto and it snows alot. But I like the handling with the X as well. I think it is better than the non-X

I've seen too many intelligent posts from you, so I knew that couldn't have been on purpose. The first thought I had was "that looks like an iPhone correction!".

I can understand wanting a slightly narrower tire for snow driving, but a 235/50 is just fine on that wheel. A good general rule is to get a tire that's about 2" wider than your wheel. A 235 width is 9.25", or 2.25" wider. Tire Rack shows the wheel range for a 235 as 6.5" to 8.5", so your 17x7's will work. But there are some differences between the 225/55 and the 235/50 besides size that make the 225/55 a better tire. A 235/50 usually has a load rating of around 96. A 225/55 is usually around 100-101, meaning you get a stiffer sidewall with a 225/55.

Regarding a spacer, the Coupe 18's are perfectly flush on a Sedan (many people, including me, run these on a Sedan). The 18's are 18x8 and +30. Your stocks are 17x7 and +45. The difference is 15mm (offset) and 1/2" or about 13mm (width difference), for a total of 28mm needed to put the Sedan 17's flush. Since a 28mm is pretty much non-existent, a 25mm or 1" spacer would be just about perfect.

I don't know what kind of tire you're considering, but you may want to remove those spacers in the winter or you'll be throwing snow all over the place, especially up front when you make a turn.
