General Question about 03 Trannys

I am thinking about getting a 03 g35 but it will come with some miles on it 100K+. I have done some looking around here about the engine and it sound like a strong engine. I also tried looking for problems with the auto trannys. I haven't seen much beside some random cases of slipping or not going into 5th gear. I am just trying to see if i need to be concerned with the high miles with the trannys on the g35.

I bought a prelude few years ago 98 auto. I didn't do my research because a friend of mine had one and the engine is a beast. Well he had a manual and i got an auto and later I come to learn the auto triptronic auto are POS. Mine never went out but started acting funny. I got nervous about it and sold the car for less then BB to get it gone. Is there anything like this with the first gen g35 autos. I looked around and didn't find anything where as if you search on any prelude forum it's everywhere. I did see the problems with the 6MT on the early g35 but I am def going auto.

Also I do NOT plan on doing any after market performance stuff on the car just stock. But I would like to get 250K miles out of the car before the engine or tranny go out. Is that too much to ask for in these cars?

these cars do run long. There is a high mileage thread here where ppl post their cars mileage and it seems like 150K is really easy to get with these cars especially if they've been properly maintained and not abused/neglected.

You'd be wise to get a later revision of the G35 (2005 or 2006) as they worked out some of the kinks that the early G35's had (MY 2003-04) so imo go for those years if you can find them.

The auto tranny is solid in these cars and the engine is still being used in the 2011 maxima till this day so no need to worry about the powertrain.

Just change the tranny fluid and do the basic maintenance when you get the car.
Get the car checked out by a trustworthy mechanic and you should be set.

Thanks for the info! I don't think my budget will allow an 05 or newer but I have looked at 03 and 04 is there any advantages to the 04 other then just being a year newer? Thanks

What he said.

My 2004 car had 123K miles when I bought it.
I replaced the ATF when I got the car and 3K miles later it started slipping again.
Since the second ATF swap the car is shifting fine.
I plan on doing it at the 135K and 145K just to get it a bit cleaner.

I know the previuos owner did not care as much for the mechanics as she did the appearance.

If you take the VIN of the car you are looking at buying to the Infiniti dealer they will give you the
global history of the car as long as it was serviced by an Infiniti dealer in the US.

I would not hesitate buying another. They are good cars.
