AC full blast, radio lighting off, no control

Had this happend when the car was under warranty. What was the exact problem and what was the fix? Just a new front faceplate? Hard to replace?

This is the issue with the power supply in the headunit. I think the thread on it is "Dreaded HVAC/Radio Problem" or something like that.

The ribbon cable which connect the radio and the AC controls could have come loose.
I would try reseating that first before throwing money at it.

Our cars must be related. Though I don't mine has ever fixed, it has started flaking out over the past 6 weeks or so. I solid whack and/or restarting the car seems to fix it. From all the reading I've done regarding the issue, it appears that the headunit is the primary cause of the issue. Some replace the faceplate, but the fix seems temporary or doesn't work at all. The loose ribbon cable is another possibility. I'll probably take mine out in a few weeks and look everything over. I'm trying to avoid putting much more money into the car because I will probably be selling it within a year.

I keep bringing this up even though it gets pooped on by many, but I think that the better repair shops that know all of the issues with these headunits can adequately fix them all at once. I'll have to dig up my receipt from RadioMedics to make sure I'm not forgetting anything, but I know at a minimum they 1) resoldered the board to fix the faulty factory soldering to the power supply (most issues caused by this, I believe), 2) completely replaced the ribbon cable and 3) completely rebuilt the disc changing mechanism. All for about $250. I know there could still be other issues down the road with the amps and maybe other stuff, but it's a risk I'm willing to take. I wasn't interested in upgrading--just wanted to get everything working again and keep the factory look, so I think this was a reasonable solution to achieve that.

Now my climite lights up but is sort of stuck in the last position. But not blasting full on. Radio panel is off and none of the controls on the head unit work. But I can control the radio from the steering wheel.

Been 2 days it's been doing that. Are the coupe face plates the same(head unit controls)? Someone mentioned replacing the resistors but I can't find that thread now.

Those are the same exact symptoms that mine had. The issue wasn't the face plate, but in the head unit itself (#1 item in my post above). I shipped off the bare head unit w/o face plate when I had it fixed.

Maybe you're thinking of this recent thread on which resistors to resolder... https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...check-out.html

So that circuit board you and that article is referring to isn't in the faceplate, it's in the power supply? Where is that? I'm pretty lost on this issue

I can't play CD-Rs when it's below 70 degrees and driving down the road. No problems when the car is not moving though...the skipping is going to make me change the head unit soon.

Nope, definitely not in the faceplate. It's in what I'm calling the headunit, or the non-descript silver box containing the guts of the radio, including the power supply. I may be a little off on the terminology, but when you remove the center of the dash to get the radio out, the headunit detaches from the faceplate by a few screws and the unplugging of the ribbon cable.

Then that circuit board is inside of the headunit, but I can't go any further since I didn't open mine up. I took the easy route.

The fix to your problem if you want to prevent it from recurring is to get an aftermarket radio with new faceplate and AC Control.

Try the double din set-up with JDM Double Din faceplate.

Replaced my whole HU with a refurb when this happened to me. I was daunted by the controller board swap.

+1. I'm actually glad my oem radio had these issues, becuase it gave me a good reason to upgrade to a DD and get rid of the fugly oem radio. The tape deck alone should be good enough a reason for most ppl to upgrade imo.
