Fix loose leather on door panel
#16
The leather on my passenger side rear door panel has separated around the concave portion in the center. It looks like I have a bubble in the panel. How are you guys spraying the adhesive to the back of the leather? Is the leather insert removable from the door panel or do you have to peel back the leather?

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
I would suggest poking a small hole in the leather in the middle of the bubble (in one of the recessed squares) and injecting the glue into the hole. Or you can peel the leather from the plastic backing if it will come off, but that seems extreme for what you have. The back of the leather has a foam backing as mentioned above so the right adhesive is a must.
I wouldn't try Gorilla glue like someone said as it greatly expands when it dries leaving what I would suspect a less than smooth final result.

My girlfriend's 06 G35 sedan has the same problem with both front door panels peeling back. I believe the only permanent method is to peel back the material and respray with the proper adhesive for vinyl and foam. I'm having an upholstery shop do it. I'll report back on the results after it is done.

Recently bought an 03 Sedan and it is interesting that the issues with my car are very common with this vehicle. The rear passenger door had this issue and the previous owner had botched the repair. About 1/4 of the panel was hanging and the rest of the panel was loose in several places. Took it to an upholstery shop and since new leather had to be used it cost $125 (it would have been $90 if the previous owner had not botched the fix).
Also, the leather cushioned cover on the upper glove box (no navigation) had warped and was loose. The shop re-glued it, but told me that since the cover is so stiff and warped it probably would not hold. They were right. Door is still functional. Priced new door but it comes in a group that is $400. May try salvage yards.

$5 for spray adhesive, non vlatile so the foam doesn't get melted, mine sprayed out blue. Peel back as much of the sponge and leather as you can to get the glue deep on the door panel and the spongy leather back. The key is to keep them apart until the spray glue starts to dry, thats when it will stick most permanently, then pull the leather up and tight so that you have lots to push up under the top of the door panel, push on and smooth by hand. You may want to stick something between the leather and door panel top to keep the leather from pulling back down until it dries good. Did all 4 of my doors 2 years ago, even tho only 2 needed it, with the panels still on the car, and they haven't come apart again yet, concave part on the rears has even stayed stuck in place.
