I live on the West Coast now so I currently have no need for a remote starter, but when I lived on the East Coast I had one in all three of the cars I owned (Lived there a long time, did not have three cars at once) and I loved it! No cons, all pros. The ones I had were made by Direct Electronics, highly recommend DEI products. Good price and very dependable.

Talking Yes, I have a remote starter!

I had a remote starter put on my car as soon as I bought it. It cost $322. It is worth every dollar imo. I keep my car parked outside in NE PA. I leave the seat heater and defroster on high when I park my car at night and voila' my car is toasty and warm when I get in. The brand is code alarm. It comes with a lifetime warranty and the warranty is transferrable to any other car you put it in. good luck.

bsegel007,
A few questions if you don't mind....
Who installed it? How much was that? What about the chip in the key....Did you leave your spare key in the car? Where did you hide the key? Any electrical problems?

Thanks,

g4ian

Thumbs up No Problems Here!

I had H&R Radio in Allentown install it. They have been in business for something like 50 years. They have a good rep. They used my valet key, but not before grinding down the metal part of the key for security purposes, mounting it under the dash, inside a special electronic wireless box. It works great with so far no electrical gremlins. pls keep in mind I have only had the car for 1 month. It has an effective range of 800 feet. I'm very happy I have it.

I just got a remote starter put on my 03 sedan about 2 months ago and it works great. I got one of those add on kits from Omega because I wanted to be able to start my car with my factory remote. I also got the same done to my 2000 I30t and no problems with either one. Cost: installed $150 each. Just hit the lock button twice and it starts the car.

Thumbs up

I agree w/ them...it's a must. I had one put in 2 months ago and love it...it's a Viper alarm/starter combo (approx. $400, due to alarm, starter, module for valey key and the truck pop option). You'll have to sacrifice your valey key w/ the chip, so they can place it in a module that's connected to the remote starter; otherwise your car won't start. I never used my valet key in my old car...so not that big a deal. The sooner you get it, the more you'll get out of it.

If you use a system that permanently inserts your key chip into it, then you're bypassing the anti-theft features of the key. Then you need to consider getting an aftermarket alarm system or your car is a sitting duck for thieves. I think there are some high end systems out there that don't need your key to work, and they preserve the car's anti-theft features.

I have an 03. Do I need the "chip" from my key to get the remote starter function added on?
