Engine Running Loud?

2006 G35X

I've had this car for a little over 3 years and it seems that within the past few months the car seems to be running louder than it has been the last few years. To me it sounds like the engine is louder than it should a speeds greater than 30-40mph. It's just a constant humming/buzzing engine noise, similiar to when you take off from 0mph but all the time. It's not terribly loud as if there is something that seriosuly wrong with the car but it is definitely noticable to me and many of the people I drive regularly have commented on it.

Now maybe it's something I'm just starting to recognize and it's quite possile that it could be road noise but either way I'm pretty sure something is different. I just came here hoping that anyone here had any suggestions or have had this happen to them.

Thanks!

I have a similiar problem. Ever since I replaced my spark plugs several months back, the engine has been louder than before. It a moderately loud whining noise heard coming from the engine.

His problem is speed pending, i would say so.

Wheel bearing alone is a $100ish for a front and maybe $75ish for the rear. Labor is where it burns, I think 2-3 hours per side in a flat rate book is about right. So whatever your mechanic wants per hour.

Jack one corner up so the tire is not touching the ground and grab the wheel on the top and bottom. If it moves back and forth, you bearings are bad.

I would think a wheel bearing too..Shaking the wheel might not diagnose the problem. Do you hear the noise from up front, or in the rear? Wheel bearing will sound like a deep humming noise.

It is definitely from the front and that is exactly what it sounds like. So would it most likely both wheel bearings or just one of the two? Whats the best way to diagnose it and what would the cost be to fix on my own and what is a ballpark cost to get a professional to do it?

thanks for all the help so far everyone.

Turn is circles going about 10-15 mph, you may notice the wheel to the opposite side of your turn making a humming noise. The front wheel bearing is about $200 plus labor. The dealer would charge $200 to replace it, it's a simple job so someone locally might only charge $50.

So you guys think I could get this done for around $300? Yes I have an X.

How imperative is this to get done? Is it something I need to do ASAP or something like compression rods/bushings that is just annoying and can get done leisurely?

Thanks!

Also check your tires. If they are feathering/cupping they will make a similar noise and they're easier to replace than a wheel bearing.
