Got my first minor scratch on the door today...

I wish everyone a Happy New Year to begin with. Anyway, after one week of owning my car 05 g35x black/black, I've decided to wash and wax it today (Merguiar quick spray wax). I have a problem getting the wax off. It smears onto the body. Anway, the inevitable happened... my 1st scratch. It's on the driver side, a thin scratch of the size of about 1.5 inch. Noticeable but not deep. Bought the Meguiar's scratch x and applied a little on it. Seem a little better but the scratch still exist. Anyone tried these? http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchan...uct_Code=KH3-C How do you guys recommend fixing a minor scratch like that? Why can't people respect other people's car. It's probably from someone opening a door because I don't have a garage and I park in back of my building. Attached are a couple pics of my car I took after waxing it today. I noticed the car has alot of those swirls on the paint. I used the microfiber cloth and 100% cotton cloth and sponge to clean my car today. Also used a high power hose to water it. I have black/black and when I looked close the black paint doesn't seem to be metallic. Is that the case? I didn't see any of those sparkles on the paint. Hmmm...because the salesperson told me all the G's have metallic paint. Now under bright light you can see alot of swirls on hood, fender, trunk, etc. This is just after 1 week owning the car. Any of you guys with black G's have the same issue? Oh, today I try the oil dipstick because everyone was saying it's a bad design. When I took it out, I was like...WHAT THE!!!...What were they thinking when they created that dipstick? How in the heck do they expect people to check their oil?

Re the burning brake smell from your other post and dipstick issue...Don't worry about checking oil, the dealer will do it while replacing your brake pads every 7500 mi...

The problem is that you can't always hunt the person down.

I have a scratch near my wheel well that can't be blamed on others. Partially, myself.

The car was in the garage when high winds knocked over a pet carrier into my car

At least I know now that there is touchup paint available that also takes clearcoat into account.

I was just kidding. Scratch happens. It's alrite. But just want to fix it up if I can. As for the brake pad every 7500 miles. It only affects 04 and 03. They fixed that for the 05 model. So you've try that touchup/clearcoat thing? How is it? That website charges $13 bucks for it which is not a problem but shipping is like another $8+...that's insane.

I've not tried it yet. I just saw it posted in this thread and will consider it. Maybe actually ask the dealership how much they would charge to do it when I take it in for the 15000 service (since I'm not sure how much I would trust doing it myself).

My brakes have been fine, but I'm not heavy on the brakes like some apparently are. When I heard some squeaks at over 10K, when I had the Nissan dealership change oil I had them check the brakes, and they said I still had 85% pads (and a little glazing). Of course, my previous car didn't require rear brake until 85000 miles, and front until 102K. But it was just a standard sedan.

if its not a deep scratch just take it to a bodyshop and ask them if they can wet sand the scrath out and buff it up.

Nothing biggie...I was just over exaggerating because it's the first scratch. I'll just have to live with it for now.

Swirl marks on a black car result from improper waxing techniques. Do not use circular motions during application and removal of wax, instead use staight up and down motions and apply elbow grease to get wax off. Black takes work and proper technique to maintain. Do a little research into detailing techniques. Why Meguire's quick spray wax, that stuff is for car shows and a quick good look, not for your initial wax. Plus I would check out the build date on your car and I would not wax the car within 60 days after build date to give the paint the proper time to cure the paint needs air.
