Newbie question

I purchased a 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan about 2 weeks ago. Reading online it says this car has a 20 gallon tank. I have filled up both twice now and drove it to empty to gauge mpg. Both times the pump clicks off at 15 gallons. I am getting between 250-270 so far after getting 15 gallons of gas. Is this normal? Does the car only have a 15 gallon tank. Also that is in town miles for the most part. Haven't really got to test highway miles yet. Thanks for any help.

Empty? How many miles do you drive until the yellow warning light comes on? Empty to me is under the last mark on the gauge Hahahahahahahaha

I believe there is also a 2 gallon reserve tank as well. I've had the light come on then go off & the gas needle actually rise back up to abt an eighth of a tank. So if u r filling up when the light comes on the 1st time ur not using anything from ur reserve tank.

Tonight the light was on and right at the last mark. I am still getting used to the car so I am not comfortable letting it get real low. I wish the car had a miles to empty screen. I didn't know anything about a reserve tank.

Yea man. Check out your owners manual. Lots of need to know stuff in there. I have a coupe so for me its 16 regular 2 reserve. I'm not sure but I wld assume the sedan is the same. Could explain your 15-16 fill ups after seeing the yellow light once.

The G has a 20 gallon tank, after using 16 gallons the warning light comes on. This gives you a 4 gallon (80-100 mile) reserve, so you know that you need to get to a gas station soon.

+1

I've kept driving mine way beyond the gas light and last hash, and even then it never takes more than 17.5-18 gallons, though I always swear I'll never let it get down that low again lol

While it is good to know how low you can go, it is a bad practice because the last few gallons it where the dirt and sediment settle. That and it promotes condensation in the tank.

It is good to know that I have plenty of time to find a station. I always keep mine below half just in case I catch a mustang snoozing....

I'm getting 325 to 350 with 16 gallons in mixed highway and city, the gauge is subject to calibration and so are the pumps. Your mileage may vary based on that alone and on how heavy your foot is.

My owner's manual for my 2004 G35x says 20 gallon capacity. I recently filled her up and it took a little over 16... must have a decent reserve tank.

Like said above when my light comes on I put in about 16 gallons. I have put in 18.9 once. The first tank of gas I put in actually on the way back from picking the car up lol
