C1142 - Pressure Sensor System - problem

For months I have gotten the SLIP, ABS, VDC lights once in a while, usually it cleared after I restarted the car and there were no codes in the ECU.

For about 2 weeks now, I have the SLIP, ABS, VDC lights on the whole time. I recently looked and the code was C1142 - Pressure Sensor System.

Anyone here have some experience with this error code?
The car drives normally, the breaks appear to work fine. Not sure if the VDC actually works.

BTW, I did check the brake fluid level and it's okay.

Not that it really matters, but I have a 2003 G35 Sedan with 196,000 miles.

thanks for any info,
Tom

brake fluid not on the low side at all? The only time i've experience this is when my brake fluids were low due to needing new brake pads.

Instead of starting a new thread I should just add my problem here.

Same issue
VDC off
SLIP
and a flashing airbag sign

Car jerks when I am at a stand still and accelerate.

Not exactly the same issue than. I don't have the airbag sign flashing, but the ABS light on.

that was my initial thought that the fluid was low, but that is not the case.

Well, based on the code pulled, it could be the pressure sensor. Too bad that on the G35, the pressure sensor is the whole ABS pump system as defined by the service manual.

After reading all the procedures about troubleshooting this, the service manual advised one needs to replace the whole ABS pump (VDC actuator) to fix this issue.

I have been looking at the damn thing and there is actually a bosch pressure sensor sticking out of the unit. It appears that a lot of cars use the same exact pressure sensor and it costs about $120 ...........

Why is there no mentioning of this specific sensor in the service manual? It only talks about the whole system including the ABS pump.

The question I guess would be, if the car is complaining about the pressure sensor could I just replace this one bosch sensor and start there instead of replacing the whole abs unit?

In case anyone here cares, I was finally able to fix the problem.
After checking everything I could based on the service manual, it looked like I would need to replace the ABS pump/pressure sensor/actuator.

When I put the car back together last night and the G35 was still getting the three lights and still getting a code C1142 in the computer I was pissed.

I turned the car on , and the lights are there. Out of frustration I pumped the brake pedal very quickly about 15-20 times. After I restarted the car the lights were done.
Drive the car to check if the VDC worked and it it did. Also tried to brake hard to check ABS and they did. This morning everything is still working right. 30 miles commute to work and everything is still working.

just for clarification:

did you just replace the Bosch sensor? could it possibly be that you needed to bleed your brake system?

No I did not replace the bosch sensor as it doesn't look like you can easily buy one. You def. can't buy it from Nissan. They want you to replace the whole ABS pump, etc for $1300.

The same bosch pressure sensor is used on a lot of cars including most Benz's.

Do know if I need to bleed the system, but the brakes have always worked well during the last two months were my ABS didn't work.

The quick pressing the brake pedal method fixed what ever issue there were. Just went the car to make sure it's still okay - yes still working okay.

BTW drove the car for a couple of years without anymore ABS issues.

However about 1 ago the lights ALL come back on. Since I got a 2012 G37xS in December I didn't care too much to fix it.

However, since I decided to keep the old trusty G35 I started restoring it. New/used steering wheel, new wheels, clean the inside, replaced the pass side seat. Still looking for a good replacement for the driver's side. Change tie rods, change stabilizer bar links in the rear. Still have to do fronts. Dropped the car on 350Z springs... and a few other things,.

Now I am tackling the ABS issue again. I checked everything as much as I could from the service manual. Couldn't fix it. decided to buy a $50 abs pump on Ebay. cheap enough to try it. When I got the pump in the mail, it had the grounding wire cut off and the power plug cut off. Wasn't too happy. contacted the company to ship another one. In the meantime I decided to also try to (risk) replacing the ABS COMPUTER CONTROL MODULE since it was only $15 shipped on ebay (BTW they still sell for $850-$1000 at the dealer.

Unplugged the old one today, plugged in the new one. Turned car ON, NO MORE ABS Slip VDC LIGHTS. ALL GONE.

I am so happy.

BTW it looks like Nissan replaced the part with newer version. The part # is 47851-AM400 the new one is AM401.
