what is the difference??

what exactly are the differences in the 05 G35 sedans and the previous years that now give the 05 298 hp stock. that is quite a bit of horsepower to increase and i was wondering if it is simple stuff that we all can take advantage of.....

any information would be appreciated

I had read some time back, somewhere in this forum I believe, that the '03-'04 260 hP was underated for some reason, I have to agree, since I went from a 260HP Mustang GT V8 to my G35 Sedan, and I still think this car is quicker than the GT was, I thought that the day I test drove one too, surprised me enough to buy one!

Although the hp was increased the torque remained the same (260). I just read another thread where the person claimed to have driven both years back to back and could feel very little if any difference.

They added variable exhaust timing. 03 and 04 have variable intake timing / cam phasing and they got additional HP from adding the variable exhaust timing into the equation.

I'm newbie owner of 2005, I'll try to list difference that I know....

-tail light is different (05 has round tail light)
-horse power is different (05 has 20 more HP)
-Key set is different (with premium package in 05, intelli key)
-Front is different (05 sedan looks more coupe - ish )

That's all i notice so far .... if anything else comes up i'll let you know ...

IMO, the 03/04 260hp G35 was underrated because dynos have shown that that there is little to no difference between an auto G35 sedan, auto G35 coupe, and auto 350Z. The numbers always favor the coupe and Z by about 5-8whp, but keep in mind the sedan is 70-90lbs lighter than the coupe. The G coupe was rated 280hp and the Z at 287hp. I believe the 289hp 05 G sedan auto is probably making close to what it's rated at now and we'll see very little difference in performance.

Nissan did this very thing back in 02 when the Altima V6 came out. The Altima and Maxima have identical looking engines though the Maxima was rated at 255hp and the Altima at 240hp. On the dyno, there was absolutely no difference, auto or manual. Either the Maxima was overrated or the Altima underrated. This year the Altima got a boost in power to 250hp though the car is still putting the same numbers to the wheels. I knew Nissan flubbed the Altima numbers back in 02 because they made one obvious and blaring mistake at rating the motor:

02 Maxima
255hp@5800 246tq@4400

02 Altima
240hp@5800 246tq@4400

Sorry Nissan, but you can't have 246tq@4400rpms making 240hp@5800rpms while in the next car it's making 255hp@5800rpms. HP is calculated from torque.

I assume Nissan choose to underrate the 03/04 sedan because they figured the coupe should get the sporty status even though it's not the quicker or better handling car. I'm aware that the coupe and Z have visually better flowing exhausts, but I seriously doubt the exhaust makes a huge difference at all seeing that the exhaust piping is decent sized.
