Dilemma...trade my 05G for a 2011 G37s??
Well guys, I just got my G35 a year and 3 months ago with 68k miles on it. I now have 85k miles on it. I have the opportunity to pick up a 2011 G37s sedan with 12k miles on it. I paid cash for the G I have now, and I would be able to make the G37 a cash deal too....so no car payment or financing to be done. The thing is, can I really justify buying the new G37? What makes it hard is that I know the person selling it. They're leaving the country in 15 days and have to sell the car before then. I'd be getting a damn good deal on it. I planned on getting another car in a couple of years anyway. The problem is that if I wait and buy another car down the road....it would probably have more miles on it and I wouldn't know who drove it. How often do you get to pick up a used car for a great price driven by someone you know? I took my car by Carmax just to see what they would give me...offered me $10,700. The other problem is that to make this a cash deal, I would have to use some money that I feel guilty using. It's not money that would make or break my finances and stuff...but it's money that I said would have another purpose. If I buy this car now, I can get that money back towards it's purpose down the road, it's just a guilty feeling still. What to do, what to do?
G37 is a better car then the G35, however if your G35 is still going strong then just keep driving it until there's no more life left. Remember, there are alway cars that are better than the one you are currently driving. When you get the G37, there's gonna be cars on the road that you will want to trade the G37 for. That's how I see it.
Well I would keep the 05, because who knows in 3-4 years you might want somthing newer and different than a g37. Maybe you'll grow out of infiniti's? maybe you will have a kid and need a bigger car? who knows! If you have a guilty conscienous now, it will probably get worse in a month after buying the car, or probably go away.
When i service my car at infiniti they always give me a g37 loaner car which is badass, but ultimatley I think I would choose my g35 just because of all the hardwork and time I have put into it....just my 0.02. Plus, mods for a g35 are alot cheaper than mods for a g37
if you plan on going that route.

just fyi the "i have to leave the country in 15 days and will give you a great price on this" is a fairly popular scam so if you don't really know the guy walk away.

Do you think that in a couple years a 2011 G37 is what you'll be looking to buy? If you're pretty much set on getting another Infinity then I'd say go for it now. As you said, knowing the car's PO/history is a big plus.
It sounds like you're really good with your money so I would recommend selling your car and using just $5k of your cash. As G35.fan said rates are really low right now! At 3% you can finance $10k for 2 years for $429/month and pay only $315 in Total Interest. Not bad!
Good luck with your decision.

lol he's my brother, I'd say I know him pretty well. I rented an 09 G37 for a beach trip and got a loaner before. I definitely like the technology and good 0-60 on it. It's just one of those...I don't have to do it, so should I? Everyone I talk to says the same thing, "nothing is wrong with your car, keep it". They can say the same thing even when my 05 G35 is 15 years old.

On a more serious note, shouldn't the G line be getting close to a new model? The refresh was in 2010, so if I'm not completely off base we should be seeing something new in the next couple MY's (any help here?). If that's something that's important to you it might make more sense to hold onto your G and get some more mileage out of it before trading up. I guess it really comes down to the peace of mind you get from knowing how the car was handled. Personally I'd kill to be in your shoes and have that offer on the table, but then I'd have to have paid for mine in cash and well...that didn't happen.
Buy the car, she doesn't need a ring.

I'd go with the g37 man... the '05 is now 7 years old and counting.... and with the price you're getting, it's probably a complete steal and i'm guessing you won't find a better priced car with that quality when you're ready to change out of an '05.
It really will come down to a) getting a new car now that you're getting a great price on or b) waiting it now and paying more for a car that will probably have better technology, new design, etc..... better the value of that new technology/design will be completely up to you... to some it'll be worth more than others!
