"Y" not "again"

Still searching for a "Y" pipe that'll function with the trasfer case on an "X". It's about the only mod I've got left that's affordable/won't void my warranty lol. Anybody heard anything...thanx...JBX

Not avaliable and the chances of becoming avaliable are slim to none, and that not ment to sound unsympathetic (I have saved pics of the underside of the FX to understand why the AWD exhaust is routed differently). I am in tune with the issue, especially the lack of a proper y-pipe for ALL applications, meaning appropriate for use with oem pipe diameters down stream (Kinetix didn't deliver what they promised with at least one bad fitment issue and NFC is MIA). For the FX and the G35X, the aftermarket is not going to see that they can recoupe their investment in R&D in the form of enough sales to justify production. And frankly, given their love of making them with 3" collector diameters, even if they did make one, it would will have that form of liability, unless of course you were willing to correct that or do the rest of the system in that pipe size (downstream).

If I were you, I would make my own Y-pipe using mandrel bends bought from SummitRacing.com and cut everything yourself using a miter saw, then have a shop weld it all together. I don't know if you'd have the room to use a aftermarket Y-merge collector as part of the design, but here's a nice one for the price. http://www.drgas.com/item.asp?id=45

I hear what you're saying.....but, I find it amazing that when the AWD's are selling at a 1 to 1 ratio (inc. Canadian sales) that it's not taken as a viable source of revenue (with the exception of Stillen, who have been searching high and lo for an X to use as a proto.) From all the measurements I have taken there are no differences between the 2/AWD models with the exception of a bracket that does nothing more than holds the "Y" down and away from the transfer case. If memory serves me correct (from installing an '05 cpe. mid pipe on my X last week) the bracket came down from the trasfer case support to a matching bracket on the "Y's" jucntion at the collector. Got the picture? The configuration is very much like the "Bullet Y" except there's a stand off that come up and bolts to the matching one coming off the transfer support. So what if I just take/make a new stand off and tig it to say a Bullet Y ? JBX

Thanxs Dude, I like what I got going however, and will get this Y pipe thing rectfied by weekend's end. I've built enough custom bikes not to let a stink'n Y pipe get in the way of success. Matter of fact I'll probably have more trouble getting the right diameter (to bolt up to a stock '05 coupe mid pipie) than tig'n on a bracket to what ever Y I decide to try...JBX thanx

Well in looking at the issue of why not, total AWD production numbers are low compaired to all FM platform RWD production. And I'll argue that of those with a FM platform AWD vehicle, the percentage of those that will mod the vehicle is much lower then the RWD cars, and that is compounded by the lower overall production numbers.

If you do try and use the Jic Y-pipe, you'll will do something to fix the missmatch between it's 80mm output diameter and the mid pipe it hooks up to only being 65mm, right? Simple solution is to cut the end off the mid pipe and splice in a transistion tube with a flange welded to it to smoothly blend 80mm to 65mm. Looking at the way the Jic is laid out or routes its piping, it does make better sense then the Fuji copies out their. However, one thing is likely, the left driver side pipe as it turns out of the cat will come close if not be obstructed by your transfer case. This from putting 3 pics side by side looking straight up of 3 different Y-pipes that are mounted on the car. One sedan oem pipe, one oem AWD FX y-pipe, and one Jic y-pipe also mounted on the car. Since the Jic is on the expensive side, reworking it to clear the transfer case if needed will certainly add to the expense. Their is one being sold on my350Z.com right not in the private classified section for $320 shipped.

thanks for your input....I know what you're saying about the fit and lack of availability. Funny....we can't give away RWD 35's...oh well. Talked to Stillen yesterday and they assured me their not having one avail. is more a result of not having an X to proto with and not with the demand. Steve said they've been swamped w/calls and are moving ahead with producing one ASAP. We'll/I'll believe it when I "hear" it (on my car). Thanx for your reaching out and trying to help. JBX

Your welcome. I've seen the oem Y-pipe without it's heat sheilding, not a pretty sight.
