Lost my key & can still start?

So... I'm not sure where my key went... I'm fairly certain it's still in the car somewhere (I searched all over). I have the smartkey system.... and I'm still able to start the car, but I can't lock it from the outside with the little button by the door handle. This leads me it still detects it in the car somewhere.

However, my dad is convinced that as long as the door is open, the car assumes you somehow have the key and will let it start (which would be an incredibly stupid car flaw in my opinion).

Can anyone confirm whether the key is still in the car?!

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the key fell between the seats. The car won't start just because the door is open unless you have the key with you or it's inside the car. Also the key lock wouldn't unlock without the key being there so you wouldn't even be able to turn the ignition.

Get your car detailed and ask them to keep an eye out for the key under the seats. That's how I found mine.

Yes because if you try to start your car before getting in it and the key is in your pocket, the car won't start. In other words, if the key is in your pocket and you lean in to start it, it won't work. I have an '05 so I don't have to apply the brake which is why I can start it without being in it but even if yours is a push button it's the same concept.

It depends, when I had a new battery in the FOB I was able to start the car just by leaning in.

With my '05 the key has to be on the inside of the car...same with my '08

With my 05 I can stand outside and start thru open window on driver door
to the OP just slide your seats all the way to front or back and key is likely along trans tunnel and seat rail.

yea that feature is a GOOD and BAD feature.

Good because you can never lock yourself out. But if you wanted to lock the keys in, you cant!
