Inspection & Emissions

I just completed my state & inspection and the total was $2800. The car needed new tires, got a set of Falkens for $640 all season. Replaced left & right front compression rods and tranverse links because the dealer said it was deteriorated to the point where it will not pass inspection. 3rd brake light stop working so had to replaced the whole assembly, that was close to $300 for parts and labor. Plus had to do a 4 wheel alignment for $79.95. All those came to around $2800. Damn, that was the highest inspection I ever had in my 20 years of driving. My car only has 68K plus miles. To all you folks with an '03 sedan, did you all have similiar problems? My next car is gonna be a Lexus or Acura, I'm done with Infiniti.

All cars will need tires and alignment

1. Brake Light issue is a common thing
2. Comp Rods are also a common issue
3. Transverse links aka Lower Control Arm Bushings go bad, just like any car.

There are much cheaper solutions for all three. Just Search the forum.

Next time come on here before accepting dealership rip off prices. This is the same with any brand.

I understand it's the same for all brands, but my car only has a little over 68K miles. Cars with that low miles shouldn't have to replaced those items.

The Vehicle inspection includes a comprehensive safety inspection to ensure basic road worthiness. Yes, it's mandatory in PA.

Miles aren't the only factor in wear and tear. Look at age as well, rubber does deteriorate and weaken over time as it's exposed to weather and elements.

My 06 w/ 64K needs a front passenger compression rod, both fronts will be done soon to the tune of $330 in parts. They're bushings, wear and tear like brakes or tires. While you can replace just a torn bushing then you have to wonder how many more miles until the ball joint fails and I'm not a gambler. Not to mention the ball joint boot usually gets damaged from removal anyways.

My advice is for you to become a smarter consumer, there are wholesale OEM parts dealers and online tutorials that make maintaining a car very affordable.

Best of luck from a fellow PA G'er.

Get an Acura next so you have to spend 5K on a transmission before 100k miles.
