Cool Newly converted TL owner

After a multitude of quality problems with my '04 TL 6MT I have made the switch to a Silver '05 G35 Sedan AT with premium B, sport package and aero kit (rear spoiler & diffusers).

This was a hard decision as Acura was willing to put me into an '05 with no money out of my pocket and a $2k check back to me. I didn't make a snap decision rather I went to my local Infiniti dealer who I had been talking to for a couple of weeks and they were willing to make a somewhat comparable deal to earn my business. I ended up with no check back however I had no out of pocket and I have a $50 per mo. cheaper payment than Acura was offering which will give me the $2k as long as I keep the car for a few years. I had read a lot about the interior "cheapness" comments before but I must say that the '05 is NICE and easily comparable to the TL in terms of quality and feels although a few less bells and whistles. So far I am VERY HAPPY with my choice.

Question, when did Infiniti start putting Turanzas ER33? on the sport package cars? I thought they had Goodyears. Anyone know anything about these tires? My TL had Turanza EL42's and they were horrible from a ride standpoint but these feel very good.

I will post pics later.

My 03.5 came with the Turanza EL42's also because I have the cold weather package along with the sport package. If you didn't get the cold weather package on the earlier models, you received the Goodyears. It's that all-season thing. I replaced mine with the 235/50/17 Mich Pilot A/S. A drastic improvement from the OEM. I still get the all season edge for the wet and snow/ice, but with a lot better grip in all conditions. My slip light doesn't come on near as much in the wet. It does tend to rain in the Seattle area! Now it's snow and ice, a rarity out here, but a nice change of pace instead of rain.

I also recently picked up a 5AT sports and was surprised to see the ER33's on it instead of the Goodyears. The ER33's have less than glowing reviews on the Tirerack site mostly from a bunch of Camry guys who complain about the snow performance of a summer tire. So far mine seem pretty nice but only have a few hundred miles on them.
The problem is that there are few choices in the 235/18 size. Will see how these hold up and go from there.

You nailed it "there are few choices in the 235/18 size"
about the only other one out there are the Conti Sport contact 2.
It's a size that seems to fall between the cracks for most makes.

Welcome, Rhino. I really look forward to seeing your pics...

...as your G is precisely what I ordered and am now waiting on. I'd love a preview!

Did you get the graphite interior?

By the way, where do you live and did you have to order yours or was your dealership able to locate one quickly? I ask because now that I've dropped my request on my order for the full aero kit (which is what my salesperson said was the biggest source of my anticipated 60-day wait), I'm wondering just how quicker I can expect my car to come in.

GearuxG35, yes I it has the graphite interior and it looks awesome.

I live in Charlotte, NC. I did not order it, the dealership received it yesterday along with 6 other G35 sedans of varying colors and packages. I was there on Saturday and they only had the Lake Slate with the sport/aero so I thought I was going to have to order one. I was torn between the graphite and the silver but since my TL was Anthracite (similar to the Graphite) and they had this jewel sitting on the lot when I arrived, I had to go with silver and take it home right away. I was in and out in about an hour and a half.

Welcome to the G35 family!

While I'm pleased you got a G, the circumstances certainly were unfortunate. When I was researching between the G and the TL I went to the TL forum and was surprised by the many quality issues people were having.

Am I the only one w/ the sport package 05 sedan w/ Goodyear NCT5 on them? Couldn't find much info on my tires either.

tire size

Infiniti is famous for picking a tire size/profile and having it MFRD for the car. I had this problem with my 2003 I35. I had a front end vibration that they could not fix. After adjusting the steering rack slider mechanism, the factory rep wanted to change tire brand but nobody else manufactured that size.(now Michelin does) So, he wanted to change tire profile and the dealer told me not to do it. Needless to say the I35 is gone (NO THANKS TO INFINITI CORPORATE) . My 2004 G35 had turanza 17" but I don't recall if it is the 42 or 33...think 42. Live in fla and the handling is great in all our torrential tropical downpours.

UPDATE: my car has EL42's, 17". I have 11400 miles on em. They have been rotated at least twice and recently re-balanced under warranty. They still have plenty of tread life and seem to be good. I hear that the Michelin MXV-4 are a good replacement when the time comes.

They aren't alone, back in the 80's, Ford did the same thing with the Mustang, I had an '81, with the alloy wheels and Michelin's, the only tire you could buy for that wheel, was a Michelin, no other brand was available, and they were even hard to find, only one or two delares here carried them!

When I was at the dealer last night I looked at this and about 1/2 had NCT5 and half had ER33's. I asked the salesperson why and he was clueless. I didn't think it was a big deal so I left it alone.

Perhaps Acura is rushing production of the TL to meet the demand? They sure are selling like hotcakes it seems. I see them EVERYWHERE already. The TL is a nice car, but the G is the enthusiast's choice. The TL interior is nice, but not THAT great either.

Having owned an '04 TL, I can say that while there may be more gadgets and flashy colors in the TL, the seats do not hold up very well. The padding is thin (especially in the back seat) and the leather in the front is cheap. After 12 mos. my driver's seat leather was stretched out and looked like an oversize sock over the padding. The G35 feels much more sturdy, hopefully it holds up better over the long term. And yes I did condition the leather in the TL - I did take care of it.

So that I am not completely bashing the TL, in its defense my car came off the line the 2nd day the 6-speeds were in production. Given the fact that it was a new body style and everything I should have expected some issues but as the Sales Manager at my local Acura dealer told me "you may have gotten a Friday night production special". The loaner cars they gave me produced several months after mine seem to have most of the kinks worked out however they still feel "loose" to me. Comparing an TL AT to a G35 AT with sport package is apples to oranges. The feel is closer to that of the 6-speed TL however still the G35 feels much tighter than it does and really puts you in touch with the road. I love it so far........

Yeah, yeah...blah-blah-blah....where are the pics! :)

Been corresponding with my salesperson about you this morning, Rhino, telling him that someone else had just taken delivery of my exact option package set-up and that I wanted to see if we could shorten the delivery period.

He said he looked in their inventory database and there's not a single silver/premium B/sport/aero package in our geograpic region (I'm in Dallas) so if I wanted to accelerate the process he'd have to find it in another region and I'd have to foot the transportation costs.

Waiting to hear back how much that would be. Dang but my impatience is gonna cost me $$$.
