2005 Tranny question

This year I want to purchase a new car. I been looking at the G35 Sedan, my second option is the 2gen IS300 it should have a 280hp V6 and come out later this year.

From my understanding while reading this forum the 6speed manual on the G35 has some problems. Are these problems fixed for 2005?? My NUMBER ONE concern when purchasing a car is reliability. I do not want any problems with the car. I've owned many Japanese cars and they drove up to the 200k miles mark without any major repairs done to them. And if I do get the G35 Sedan I dont want any problems with this car as well.

Thats why I'm looking into the 2nd Gen IS300. Although we dont have any real info on the car. But it is still a Lexus and they are one of the most reliable cars out there.. I am willing to wait for it if I have to.

Any helpful information is appreciated. Or and other problems people are having with the G..

Is the Lexus a better built vehicle? In my opinion, yes. I will state that I had driven the IS300 and was not impressed with the car itself. It was to much money for to little automobile. That said, I did not do any research into recalls/complaints with the IS300. It feels like a small compact car to me.A 280 HP output would help it allot. But, style/size wise, I like the G better. I have no love for Infiniti corporate as they were no help with a problem with my 2003 I35. The dealer ended up stating the car was defective and corp said it was not. Maybe , in a pinch, Lexus will treat you better. Then again, maybe not.

The 2generation IS300 should be bigger. The current IS300 is a bit to small for me also thats why I want to go with the 2nd gen if I dont choose the G35.

I'm just worried about long term reliability with the G35. Because when I purchase a vehicle I keep it for at least 5 years. Thats why reliability is most important to me.

Toyota/Lexus and Honda/Acura are probably more reliable than Nissan/Infiniti. Boring usually comes with reliability.

I'm willing to sacrifice the "boring" aspect of Lexus inturn for the reliability.
There is nothing more annoying then going to the dealer and getting warranty work done. So hopefully I wont need to be going to the dealers when I purchase my next vehicle.

The next gen GS/IS arent going to be that boring. I saw the GS300 at the LA Auto Show it looked pretty decent. The interior was really nice.

I disagree. Getting spendy non-warranty work is much more annoying!

IMHO, the first two years of new gen cars are typically less reliable. So the new Lexus could be less reliable than a 3rd year 2005 G35. Something to consider.

I want a car that I do not even have to take my car into the dealership for problems even if its warrenty work. My previous cars I never took anyone of them to the dealership for anything. I got a brand new 02 Toyota Highlander V6 and its never been to the dealer to get anything done either and its at 65k miles. I just dont have time fixing stuff if small annoying things are wrong.

Yes I know. Thats why I'm hesitant of getting the first production of the IS300. It shouldnt be that bad though. The current IS300 first production problems were very minor. But I do not want to wait two more years to get a new car.. I've been waiting for 2 years now.

Nobody answered my main concern.

How is the 6speed manual tranny on the G35?? I been reading people were having problems with the earlier production models. Is this fixed for 2005?? Or its too soon to tell??

Mine makes a lot of funny noises. I havent shifted over 4000RPM and I havent opened her yet (500 miles) So maybe get a Lexus. I figured I couldn't go wrong with this car because it has a loaner system, and lexus was to bland, so I went with exciting, we will see where I end up. My mom has a lexus and its a first year, no problems with it, great car, lexus is probably the only brand I would buy in its first year.

I don't think reliability is an issue with the G35 or with Infiniti generally. I have over 18k miles and zero problems so far. My car does not make funny noises either!
