correct way to paint chrome?

is there a correct process to paint the chrome trim? I heard you cant paint that part because it flakes off and peels easily, is this true?

If you want a paint job that will last, I would go to a good body shop. Unless you know how to do professional paint work, you will not get a finish that will last very long. The paint in spray cans are not even close to the products that body shops use.

i asked the guy at the body shop and he said that the paint wont stick to the chrome. He told me he can try to do it if i wanted but he cant guarantee itll last.

What he said.

Paint will stick to chrome with the proper procedures and those are the proper procedures to go in

Your body guy sucks. Go somewhere else, people paint their grilles with no issues and that sees more abose than a window trim

Aircraft stripper is good for removing paint. Prep is key in painting always. Anybody can spray.
Oven cleaner works good on removing anodizing, not sure what works best for chrome though.

How about prepping for paint on the part that holds your side rear view mirrors? That part seems to be fiber glass or something?

You can paint chrome after sanding and priming. If you are doing black chrome or a clear tint on top, you need to use an adhesion promoter since you're not looking to have sanding marks underneath.

I'll take a look at my car and see what you mean. I'm guessing it's plastic, in which case there are plenty of primers at walmart or vatozone.
There is also an awesome paint prep spray that cleans and left over oil and grease to prep for paint. Wear rubber gloves when prepping, oil from your skin can ruin a paint job.

When prepped correctly you shouldn't have an issue painting over chrome.
