Ballast Replacement Questions

Hey guys. I upgraded my HID bubls to 6k a few weeks ago and now my passenger side bulb flahes and goes off. But when I turn off the hedlights and turn them back on the bulb come back on. I think my ballast is going out on my passenger side. I want to buy a replacement but I was wondering if I have to buy two new ballasts or can I just replace the messed up one? Thanks in advance!

You can just replaced the messed up one. Pretty easy project, too. I think there's a DIY here somewhere. I did it this spring. I'd recommend swapping your drivers and passenger side first to ensure that it is the ballast. There are a ton for sale on ebay- go with a reputable seller.

Good luck!

I had that issue after installin aftermarket 6K bulbs. It ended up being the bulbs.

I'd suggest swapping the bulbs to opposite sides and verify the problem doesn't follow the bulb

Cheap generic bulbs are the problem the bulbs i have are DDM only cost like $40, for the $ you'll spend on quality bulbs your best bet would be to spend that on a retrofit

Yup

I wouldn't hold much faith in cheap Chinese bulbs, when the quality bulbs that most OEM's use retail $100 each or more.

My DDM bulbs probably last a year or so before one starts to behave funny. Last bulb that went bad on me would turn of when i hit bumps. I couldn't restart it unless i gave it 5 mins or so to cool and then it would fire up again.

Hey guys I'm having an issue with my passenger side HID. I bought the expensive bulb from O'reillys for $100. It was a D2R 9003. My problem is that it went out, and I put the new one in and after a few days it burnt out. I replaced it again with a warranty for the bulb and after I installed it, instantly it burned out. I'm assuming its a short or a bad ballast now but you guys are saying it's a bulb? Any help for this would help.
