People talk about mods adding power, yet no dynos or track times to support claims?

SixFive-
I was at the track to witness Derek173 run a 13.9x with his 5AT coupe. His mods were only a y-pipe and K+N/z-tube combo. That was the day I ran a 14.50 in my "X".

I have yet to see a non-FI 5AT sedan do the same...GOOD LUCK!!

W.

Chicago I did see that a while ago and forgot. There are 2 now that I can remember and probably not many more. I do know of 1 or 2 six speeds breaking 13's stock. The perfect launch can destroy an auto but it's the consistency that is hard to duplicate. Anyone else out there break 13's. Bossho hasn't been around in a while. I hope he's at the Nissan event as we need to run. What about you Chicago - you driving out here next summer?

I thought I recall a 13.96 or something from a stock 6mt over at FA, but it was months ago. Could've been an auto too, but I really thought I remember it being a 6mt.

I've had the Stillen Exhaust on my car for about 6 months now and even tho it is louder then stock and you do get a constant low droneing sound when driving, its no where near the sound level some are saying it is. you guys must have ultra sensative ears or something. I've driven several times with my parents in the car and both of them are in there late 60's and have no problem with the deeper tone of the exhaust...

I think its peoples expectations of the car, since its a luxury brand people expect it to be quite. Now take the same exhaust note and throw it on a porsche and they will probably love the exhaust sound and have no problem driving around in it... I think its more in the head then anything....

Great thread, tons of good information, from experienced and knowledgable folks.

Quick question. Should I wait until the breakin period is over before adding a K&N drop in and Z-Tube to a new G35?

threatening breakup over an exhaust? jeez... that's shallow.

roro:
It wasn't quite that simple. Basically she was nagging and complaining about how I turned my luxury car into the Saturn-V. The constant nagging made me backtalk back to her which then led to larger arguments and discord. After enough time it could've led to the demise of our relationship due to my stubborness and her lack of understanding the power vs noise relationship. At any rate, I decided to go back to the stock system to avoid upsetting her and to make for a much more civil ride for when I'm hauling family and co-workers around.

SixFive, Gee35X:

No response to my requests to race.....surprising !! (not)

I would have taken the Gremlin (Gremlin "X" , btw ), but figured on renting a G35X locally. It would have been even better toasting him in a rental. What a tool.

DaveB: While I generally run at Byron, the end-of-season is always crowded. We went to US41 in Morocco, Indiana. It's a nice family-run track where you can get as many runs as you want. By contrast, when I raced the loaner, I only got 3 runs in 8 hours @ Byron.

Are we talking another "Loaner Road Test at the Strip". Your last one was absolutely Classic, complete with pics, and drag prep. Just loved it , couldn't stop laughing, it was sooooo funny but impressive.

I am looking at a 2005 G35 sedan w/ a 6-speed tranny. At 298 hp what do you think that 1/4 mile will be?
