Don't use the pads. The terminals are conical shaped and after years, that and over tightening them can cause issues. IF you're worried about corrosion you can get spray.

Just my 2 cents... I wouldn't use that corrosion spray protector. I used it once and my car and then it wouldn't start. So I took it off and it started right up and I haven't had a problem since.

Our ECUs detect issues like you were having and puts the car into "Limp Mode." Happened to me when my AT fluid got too hot last summer, it was 110 degrees in Santa Clarita. Glad you figured this one out....Gary

It wouldn't stop your car from starting unless you sprayed it in between the contact points (inside of the terminal or on top of the post) before connecting them.

Oil thread.

I bought my G with 76K and did oil change with Castrol Edge 5W-30. I don't know how many quarts PepBoys actually filled but I paid for 5 qts.

Now I hit 80 K in around 3.5 months, I checked my oil level its almost at the minimum on the stick.

I was planning to do long intervals on the oil change like 7K but with the consumption I doubt it. There is no leak on the engine btw. Thats for sure.

My questions;

1) I just bought 5 qts GC (0W-30) + Bosch oil filter for $34 from Autozone. Good deal I guess?

2) I saw the Titanium Edge (Gold Bottle) for $3-4 more. Should I try that? But I haven't seen 0W-30 on that. The closest was 5W-30.

3) I don't know the history of the car, but I told you my experience with Edge 5W-30 above. So what should I do? Try GC (0W-30) with the winter is coming up? Would this worsen my oil consumption? Stick with 5W-30? or switch to conventional since its already burning oil? (I haven't measured how much though)

Now, the stage is yours. Experts... Thank you.

This is not a car that you can do long oil changes on. I would stick to 5W-30 personally, but GC is a good oil for this car, usually in 5W-30. I don't know about that filter though, I personally run an M45 Purlator filter for more filtering capacity.

You should check the oil often since the problem can worsen and also since driving hard may temporarily increase consumption. Your case doesn't sound too bad, but I would still keep an eye on it. I change mine every 3k.

^ The M45 filter is longer so it hold some more oil. You never reach the filtering capacity of any filter unless you are running it for 10k+

You can Run Castrol GTX 5W30 for 5k miles and it might slow down your OC.

If you bought Castrol Syntec 0W30 thats German Castrol which is good oil, its thicker than Edge so it might help as well with your Consumption.

If you want to see how long and oil can go with your driving style you want to buy a UOA (Used Oil Analysis) which will run you about 25-35 bucks

What year do you have, you might have the oil consumption issue on 05 VQ engines and up

bc with my 2003, *knock on wood* i have always maintained high levels of oil till next oil change. i change my oil every 4k miles

This is a pic of the dipstick. I just couldnt wait for the sunlight. If you take a look at it closely if actually way below the minimum level. So this happened in 4K.

What do you say?

Its an 04 auto.

The filter on it actually a purolator i guess. The next one is bosch.

The quality of the oil did not look bad to me what do you say? looks like consuming only...

UOA... Im thinking about it. And most likely will do it.

Purolators are good filters to stick with. I'd go with the oil change specials from Advance over Autozone. 99% of the time, you can get a Purolator Pure One filter with the specials from Advance for a little bit cheaper. The Bosch isn't a bad filter, either. But Purolator has been proven, at least from what I've seen, to be the leading filter right now.

You might not have a worn ring consumption issue. Check your valve covers to make sure they aren't leaking. That can be a culprit in oil consumption, too, and is simple to fix. I know mine are leaky...I just haven't had the time to change them out with newer covers. Have you checked to make sure your car isn't leaking oil anywhere else?

Oil and Oil Consumption related questions

Hello all,

I have an 04 with auto, 80K. I filled it up with Castrol Edge 5-30. However after 4K, oil level dropped a lot. Please take a look at it from the link below.

Here is a link to my current dipstick picture. pic.twitter.com/O4WPy1Eq

As you can see, the level is way below minimum. It is actually right below the last bump on the stick.

I was not near the car when they filled it up, but isn't something wrong with this level?

I already bought 5 qts of GC from Autozone because they have a good deal going on.

With this consumption issue, Should I stick with 5-30? Switch to GC? or switch to conventional, GTX?

For comparison purposes. I have a 2007 6MT coupe with a replaced short block approx. 6kmiles ago. I've put about 2,000 miles since purchasing it and I put it about 3oz. of oil yesterday to get it back to full last week. My level was about 1/4" from the Full on the dipstick. But I've been running my car hard the last couple of weeks during my Osiris tuning session.

I can't see anything in the picture. After 4k it seems normal to burn off some oil. Was the dipstick inserted all the way? Level ground? Was it cold or hot when you took it? Leaks? It depends a lot on how you check your oil also.
