cup holder lid sticking

hi. my center console cup holder is sticking and when it finally releases it opens very slow. anyone dealing with this? what could be causing this and is there a fix w/out replacing the whole center console? btw 05 sedan AT. thnx guys

Mine did the same because I spilled a sugary beverage I in it. I put hot water in the cup holder and let it sit. This freed it up most of the way, then usage did the rest.

Hot water will probably do the trick if it's from a sugary drink. I still need to get around figuring out how to work on mine as well.

i have the same problem. is there a DIY on how to remove the center console? I have search but I only get 03-04

thnx for the replies guys. after messing with it for a while it started working properly. it really sounds like what u guys are saying (spilled soda). how hard is it to remove the console?

Follow SOME of the steps in this thread. Then the rest will be easy. I had the same problem. I took mine apart last year, took out the buttons for the heated seats. Soaked it in warm water and scrubbed the little mechanism with a wet paper towel to get what was caked on.. off. Blow dried it with compressed air and put everything back together

No problem. When i did mine. I just went at it, wish i ran into that thread before hand. It would of made it go by somewhat faster.
I hate the cup holders though. Lets everything slide back, forth and tips the drink
