Remote Start Built In?
Mystery solved. Curiosity got the best of me. Sure enough it's aftermarket:

Now just trying to figure out who the manufacturer is since there are no markings on it - just a model number...
EDIT: Just searched the part number...it's an AudioVox "prestige platinum plus"...ugh. Oh well, it seems to work.

I agree. The OEM fob distance seems pretty bad compared to some of the aftermarket ones I've had...
Haha, I heard this trick when I had a '94 VW Jetta. I bought a VW alarm module that worked with a remote, and after seeing that at 15ft I had no signal, I searched some forums and found that out.

MT cars usually have a different procedure with a car starter. Most compaines cannot install a car starter that works like an Automatic trans starter for liability reasons.
The MT car starters that are available work like this.
With the engine running, put trans in nuetral and set parking brake. Hit the button to activate the remote start system. Remove key from engine. Car will continue to run. You have a set time limit to exit the vehicle. When you open and close the door, the system is armed and the engine will now turn off.
To activate, the next morning, hit the button on the remote and the car will start.
If at any time, the car door is opened, the system is disabled and will not start.
The reason for this is to ensure that the trans is in nuetral and not set in gear. Not all cars have a way to verify that the trans is in nuetral.
Huge liabilities with MT and remote starters...which is why the complicated system is setup like that
