Mystery solved. Curiosity got the best of me. Sure enough it's aftermarket:

Now just trying to figure out who the manufacturer is since there are no markings on it - just a model number...
EDIT: Just searched the part number...it's an AudioVox "prestige platinum plus"...ugh. Oh well, it seems to work.

What kind of distance does the OEM fob get? I love the idea. My only concern is aftermarket fobs usually work a couple hundred feet away where as an OEM fob is trash after about 15 feet.

I agree. The OEM fob distance seems pretty bad compared to some of the aftermarket ones I've had...

Seems funny, but put your FOB under your chin and you will act as an antenna and will reach greater distances.

Haha, I heard this trick when I had a '94 VW Jetta. I bought a VW alarm module that worked with a remote, and after seeing that at 15ft I had no signal, I searched some forums and found that out.

If you don't want to make a fool of yourself, make it stealth :P

Hmm, interesting... I'm going to have to try it now. Haha.

How far did you get? Distance wise.

60ft for sure, didn't measure exactly. Enought to re-lock it from inside my appt block when I'm unsure I locked it earlier...

MT cars usually have a different procedure with a car starter. Most compaines cannot install a car starter that works like an Automatic trans starter for liability reasons.

The MT car starters that are available work like this.

With the engine running, put trans in nuetral and set parking brake. Hit the button to activate the remote start system. Remove key from engine. Car will continue to run. You have a set time limit to exit the vehicle. When you open and close the door, the system is armed and the engine will now turn off.

To activate, the next morning, hit the button on the remote and the car will start.

If at any time, the car door is opened, the system is disabled and will not start.

The reason for this is to ensure that the trans is in nuetral and not set in gear. Not all cars have a way to verify that the trans is in nuetral.

Huge liabilities with MT and remote starters...which is why the complicated system is setup like that
