Angry Anyone else get locked out of their car?

Never had this happen before:

Today, I was clearing the snow off my 04 G35x (from the little storm we're having in the northeast). As usual, I had the car running to warm things up, have some music going, etc. When I had finished, I discovered I was locked out of the car! I know I did not touch the lock controls when I started her up since I did open the driver door after I had started clearing things off to switch radio stations. Anyone have any ideas or have this happen to them too?

Unfortunately, I'm also locked out of my house (keys are in the car) so no getting at the spare fob, and because of the storm, roadside assistance is estimating 3-4 hours to get to me. Luckily the neighbors were home, so that's where I am (and where I'm typing this from).

sorry I have to laugh thats funny to think about LOL sorry, but I can say I never had that happen I thought the door wouldn't lock unless someone was in the driver seat. But on the other hand your car should have came with the walet key I always have that on me incase that ever did happen. Did yours come with one if it did I suggest you put it in your wallet.

What i do...is seperate the key from the remote on the keychain...that way in the morning i start up my car and lock it with the remote....and don't have to worry about this happening...but then again i keep the house keys seperate from the single car key....

Anyway....where in the North east are you? I got about 11" of snow outside waiting to be cleared off...

Rudeboy: Yeah, if it wasn't me, I'd be laughing too. If I got a wallet key, it's probably with the owners manual, etc in the nice case (in the car!)

allforthecash: I'm in Portland, Maine. There's quite a bit of wind (gusts to 35mph) so the snow is getting blown about a bit but I'd guess there's at least 12" or so on the ground (though it's still falling).

That's frustrating I'll bet. I've heard of that happening from other members, and like you, they swear they never accidently locked the car.
I like my bro's Solara in that respect: with the keys in the ignition, the doors won't lock.
If you have an electric garage door, get a remote keypad for outside. It's saved my butt more than once.
Another answer is to keep a house key hidden somewhere outside or leave one with a neighbour.
If you carry a wallet, don't forget the plastic wallet key for this purpose.
C.

Unhappy

I was moving stuff out of my old apartment and i had so many boxes of odds and ends that when i threw them in my trunk, i didnt realize i had thrown the key fob in the trunk and locked it!
Unfortunately, i also armed the car alarm and was locked out of the car as well. My only saving grace was that i left the driver side window slightly open!

I was so screwed!!! THis was my old apt. and my new house was an hour and a half away.

So i thought i could be clever and used a wire hanger to push open the car lock and open the door from the inside. But what i dint know was...this will trigger the alarm. And so the alarm goes off and im standing there with a wire hanger poking inside my own car i realized if i saw somebody else doing this i'd swear they were stealing the car! I get the car open and come upon another realization that when the alarm goes off, this disables the manual trunk release inside the car. Soo yeah...my initial reaction was to call roadside assistance from infiniti... when i got ahold of the operator, it was clear he had no clue whatsover about the g35 or any of its alarm features or capabilities -- he just said he'll have a locksmith come over to where i was which was going to take about 50 minutes.

As i was sitting there, it didnt dawn on me til after 30 minutes of waiting that the rear passenger seat's armrest had an opening to the trunk! In my defense, my car was only a few days old and I had not familiarized myself with everything just yet. So with that information, i stuck my hand inside and fished around blindly (i had no flashlight) feeling for my car keys which of course, were in the farthest most difficult nook and cranny, buried behind all stuff in the trunk--but still i found them! I was so relieved and also so ashamed of myself at the same time... i called back the infiniti roadside and canceled and went on my way.

From then on, I've been really vigilant about making sure that my keys are in my pocket before i shut my trunk.

I agree with the key pad for the garage door, and you can hide a key to your house(garage door) in the garage. Also, while doing something outside a running car---I ALWAYS lower the window 1/4 or 1/2 way down before I close the door. Sorry to hear that.

Actually it is true at least with my 2003.5 Sedan. If the car is off and if you dont lock your doors, after a certain amount of time they will lock by themself. But with the car in the key, I am surprised that it locked. It shouldnt have.

When I get home from work, I check the mail at the building at the entrance to the condo complex I live at. The mailboxes are only 15 feet away from where I can park. I came back to my '04 Coupe (which was still running) one day and the doors were locked. Had to use the key on the black plastic card in my wallet to get in the car. I don't know what happened- I never lock the doors while driving and couldn't have accidentally bumped the fob while I was walking to the mailbox and back since the fob was attached to the keys in the ignition.

Never gonna have that problem again.. 05 Sedan with" Intelligent Key" solves that problem. The doors won't lock with the keyfob in the car and ignition off.. It's awsome I tried it out and same with the trunk if you lock your keys in there the trunk will pop open after about 10 sec.....

It is because of fears of this that I actuall walk around with up to 3 keyrings.

A keyring with just the G35 key (and the infinity keyring).

A keyring with my fob for the truck, car, and a key for each.

And a third keyring with an extra key for the truck, the house, etc.

The fob for the truck doesn't work while it it is running, so I just use the fobs ring for driving the truck, and leave the extra G35 key at home. But for the G35, I drive with just the single key in the ignition.

That way, I always have a spare key to get into the car.

The down side, the key I want is always the 3rd or 4th one I find in the pocket.

Of course, there was the time back in college when I went outside to warm up the car when it was cold with snow on the ground. While scraping the windshield, the door closed, and it turned out it was locked (problems with the door lock meant it didn't always popup completely.) I ended up breaking into the house with a credit card to get my other car keys. Proof about why you need a deadbolt.
