Whats up with my breaks????

Washed my car today and noticed the breaks look like they are rusted...is this normal???

It's called rust/oxidization..drive it and brake a few times, they'll be clean again mate.

What you have is called "hard water" with a lot of minerals in it. The water reacts with the iron in the rotor and causes the oxidation to speed up and occurr during washing. Sorry about the long explination, thats the engineer in me speaking out.

Cast iron rotors have far superior braking over stainless. They will rust though. What you have is surface rust that will be gone the first time you "brake".

Plus, if you use a wheel cleaner, such as "Hot Rims", you will have that on the rotors, not unusual at all!
