I've searched and not sure if the sound I'm hearing is described or not:
Some mornings (not all) i hear a brief (.5-1 sec) squeak that repeats for anywhere between 2 and 10 seconds (*squeak*squeak*squeak*squeak*...), then goes away with what I think might be a fan kicking on.
This morning pulling out of the garage with my window down, I heard the oscillating squeak again when turning the wheel all the way to one side. This made me think power steering belt, but why would that squeak on startup?
Thanks guys!

Could be a pulley.... How's the belt condition? They are pretty easy to swap if they r in bad shape
Check the condition of your belts, if the belts are in good condition just tighten. If your belts, still make the noise then try some belt dressing.

I'm definitely thinking it's your timing belt. You can visually inspect it and see if it has deteriorated at all.

I'm having similar issues, but mine started this week around the time the weather dropped (socal)...let me know how it turns out.

I would say it's got to be your drive belts slipping. I had this problem as well and after I replaced them, the squeaking stopped. You can always tighten them a little bit if the belts are in good condition still.Originally Posted by g35indafuture

Been frost on my car when I walk out in the morning in SoCal also. Got cold all of a sudden.

Will do. I hope there's a good DIY for the belt tensioning somewhere, such a noob!!Originally Posted by That's G

So I sprayed some WD40 on the belts and the squeaking was INSANE for about 10 miles oh hwy driving, then finally went away. I tightened up the small belt pulley and tensioner, and now for the first few minutes the car is on, the sound is alittle different than a squeak, almost a squeal or a swivelling type noise. Its intermittent when the car is idling now also. Help!
I was planning on swapping both drivebelts and possibly both pulleys if they have slop/resistance, good plan?

Why did you put a lubricant on the belts? Go figure! Originally Posted by achillesg

Any thoughts on the plan? Someone at work said they thought it sounded like a water pump bearing gone bad. Last thing I want is for this to lead to overheating issues.

Belts squeak when they get old and frayed especially in cold weather, kinda like the poly bushing on my Vette. There's no doubt they need replacing but you can keep them quiet temporally by rubbing a bar of soap on them....this is an old school temp fix. I recommend buying OE belts from Nissan, there quality is far better than what the local auto parts store sells....Gary
