5W-30 castrol for the first 15K-20K miles...with a PureONe oil filter...I was about to take mine to the dealer but decided to do it myself...i think it was around $20 if i took my own oil and filter

location of oil drain/filter?

Are the filter and oil pan drain located in decent locations on the G? I enjoy changing the oil on my own car, you can save at least $20 per change (heard oil changes costing $40, yea I know they wash/vacuum the car)

yea...its right there on the bottom..pretty easy...the hardest thing is removing the bottom plastic cover..it has like 20 screws on it......AND i would only use Mobil 1 sythetic after the first 15K miles...i wouldnt trust the dealer washing my car either unless its a Touchless car wash. just my 2 cents = )

you can change to Synthetic anytime. The engine undergoes a hot test before it ever gets built in and at hte factory they perform a Roll test to verify all control modules, engine, transmission, spedo, ..... Bottom line, the engine is already broken in. If any of you ever been to a factory and seen the Roll test you'll be surprised how hard some of the drivers gun the engine to get the speed up to make the test go faster. The only reason they are allowed to do that is because the engine plant "hot" test an engine and break it in before it goes into the car. The only thing that you are breaking in for the first 1000 miles or so are the rest of the components that bolt onto the engine. I changed to synthetic oils in every one of my vehicles and plan to do so in my G35 next weekend (600 miles). I just haven't had time yet.

I use Castrol Syntec Synthetic Blend 5W30 oil in mine. I take 5 quarts to the dealer and
they change it for $30. Since we have such a great warranty, 60K miles, I want to have
a record of having my oil changed at dealer recommended intervals until my warranty
expires. The Synthetic Blend every 3750 miles guarantees me the warranty will be honored,
and I know the Blend is better than regular dino oil. It is peace of mind knowing that the
warranty is not in question. Just my 2cents.

I use mobil 1. The oil drain plug and filter are accessable from a slot located closer to the passenger side under the car. There is a panel mounted under the car to decrease air drag. Some of us are able to get our hands through the opening provided for this purpose. Others will have to remove a few extra screws or drop the panel completely if you need to use a filter wrench.

The opening in the panel on my G is not big enough to reach the filter. Maybe they changed the design after '03. You may also want to check out a Fumoto quick change drain plug. Makes the whole process a lot easier for do-it-yourselfers.

I don't agree with waiting for 15000 miles. When you are ready for your first oil change (mine was 1427 miles) I believe synthetic is ok. Your engine has been brought up to temp many times by then. If your gasgets have not sealed by then, they never will. I think I used castrol or syntec my first change, then switched to full synthetic. I never use any oil between changes, the car is great and I have 11500 miles on it now. What I want to know is about the A.T fluid. Is there a synthetic approved for use by Infiniti?

Synthetic from the start

Check the Mobil 1 web site FAQ's, ok to use synthetic from the start. Corvette & others do from the factory.

It is about $37 here at KC Major for just oil change (tax included, no car wash. For my camry, toyota charges $23 and car wash).
