Final check: OEM Muffler only option?

Hi All,

Just one final check before I bite the bullet. I picked up an 06 g35x about 6 weeks ago. The resonator had been deleted and replaced with a straight pipe and some sort of aftermarket muffler- far too loud for my tastes. Drone was clearly evident at cruising speed on the highway and it was enough to give you a headache after a while. My neighbours could also hear me coming from a block away. I decided to get this back to stock, or as close as possible, target being 06 coupe mid-pipe and OEM muffler. I was able to get an 06 coupe mid-pipe that has since been installed- this quieted it down a bit but not enough. My searches for a used OEM muffler that is in decent condition have produced little results- most of the ones im seeing here (Northeast) have some rust and I can see that being a problem in a couple of years. From my readings, no aftermarket muffler is going to give me anything close to what I need- they will all be loud. I have two salvage yards that I will check over the weekend as a last option. If this doesnt pan out, I will be left with calling Infiniti dealers and seeing who has the lowest price and ordering from them. Have I looked at everything or did I miss something?

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

The dealerships around here are going to be in the 300+ range for the muffler... not worth it all at all in my opinion.

you can also use an 03-04 muffler, they are a little smaller but nearly as quite as the 05-06.

Thank you. Yea, about 350 was the cheapest I saw online and that was before shipping. I hit that thread as well and listened to all those. $350 is definitely a little crazy but I've spent a lot of time over 6 weeks trying to find a used OEM one that I'm basically at " get this sorted out now. Time to move on". And the womans starting to make comments about how much time im spending on this

We understand you're just trying to get the job done right without spending a lot of $$. If she's complaining about the time spent have her write a check for a new muffler. (her account)

Thank you Peoria. I had actually looked at that one but balked due to a combination of the price, age, damage/rust on it. Although i dont know if he was bundling the price and the shipping together and I know shipping tends to get a bit expensive..

Cydrive, have you tried checking with a muffler shop? You don't need a OE muffler to be quiet, there are a dozen muffler manufactures that make OE type mufflers for your G....Gary

Bring your boots. I was just there and it's a mud pit if you plan on walking through the yard.

I didn't see any G35's..but i wasn't looking for them.

Gary, part of the reason that I'm gravitating toward OEM was that two days after I bought the car, I went into a muffler shop. My fault for not doing a bit more research but I had them install a muffler and resonator that they had. The car was a touch quieter but no where near where I needed it to be, that very annoying drone was still there. Thats when I decided to go OEM instead of the trial and error with muffler shops. I was actually looking at this Bosal until I read on a thread somewhere they are loud and have questionable quality, breaking down in 3 years or so.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods
OP just know if you go with an 03-04 muffler you'll need the hanger bracket for the 03-04 as well. The 05-06 sedans have different brackets.
