A/c issues?!

For some time now, I've been having to turn on the a/c... Then turn it back off or hit the a/c compressor button.... Then turn either of which back on for my a/c to get cold. Right about now I'm on the verge of refilling the compressor with freon or replacing my drier thinking its bad... Has anyone ever dealt with similar issues?

Some garages have specialized equipment that will drain and fill the system automatically, preventing over filling issues, you might want to look for this if you don't want to screw it up

yeah i think I'm better off just doing a flush and refill.... never did it before so now is a good time to handle that.

A flush and refill of the aC system without really understanding the cause?

Unless you have the proper equipment, you'll do more harm than good.

never knew you could drain and refill the AC system.

Most auto stores have a freon kit and they come with a gauge that will let you know your current level and how much is in at any given moment as you are refilling it. only ~$13

didn't realize where you were and how costly it was.

if its basically $50 for that, how much would it be for a full drain and refill?

It should be much more considering the labor.

Evacuate refrigerant and oil
some shops will then do a nitrogen fill to check for leaks.
pull vacuum on system for several hours
recharge with proper level of oil/refrigerant.

If the laws there are like the US laws concerning A/C systems, the shop MUST repair the leak. SO ifhe brings it in and they identify a leak, they are legally required to fix the leak before filling the system. Again, that's US law. Not sure if the same applies elsewhere.

But based on his description of the issue. I'm not sold it's low refrigerant yet.

BTW, has anyone else noticed R-134a has gone WAAAAAY up in value? It's now nearly $20/can.

The US Virgin Islands don't require an emissions test when registering the vehicle (even though they're supposed to) but the shop I called said its at least $75 for a drain & refill. An additional $50 if the dryer needs replacing.

I ran into my home boy last night though and he said he got some freon by his shop so imma check him later this week and charge this condenser to the boarder line overcharge point LOL (not really).

It sucks living in the VI with no Infiniti authorized dealers...
