Unless you're sportin' a manual...Don't worry about over-revving.

When you mis-shift from 3rd to 2nd doing a 1/4 mile run in a manual and rev the engine up to 11k drop us a line.

Can you do damage to the engine by bouncing off the limiter several times, maybe 4 or 5. I did that today when I forgot I was in manual mode on my 5AT and it bounced several times before I got to my senses Can this do damage? The engine and oil were fully warmed up though, so hopefully I didn't hurt anything.... I felt like an idiot.

"No it does not shift for you."

On page 5-12 of the sedan Owner's Manual it states:

In the manual shift mode, the transmission may shift up automatically over the selected range, if the engine is revved up to a hazardous speed.

Keep on pegging the rev limiter long enough and your engine will eventually take a dump on you. 4 or 5 times in a row is not good but I think you'll be allright. Just don't do it again. When your in manual mode pretend like you are actually driving a real stick. That will keep you more aware and alert to what your car is doing.

I did it too a couple of times when I was first getting used to the Manumatic. Just don't make it a habit and you'll be fine.

I learned early on that the 5AT sucks bad when trying sport shift under WOT. The delay is rediculous and will cause you to hit the limiter. I have bounced off of it on 3-4 occasions at full throttle. The motor has 51000 on it now and runs almost better than new. No worries. Now if you had a reflash that lets it do a fuel cut at 7100, things may be different. It would be better if they cut the spark instead of the fuel, but I guess Infiniti knows best?

my god what a bunch of pussies... (I mean that in the nicest way)

Bouncing off the rev limiter shouldn't do a damn thing to the car unless Nissan completely screwed it up.

These are drive by wire cars, when limiter is hit, it simply shuts down the throttle. i.e. no different than you taking your foot off the gas.

I would highly doubt any kind of damage from revs unless you get past 7- 7.5k with stock engine. obviously high reves will waer some engine parts faster, but engine damage from over revving is normally from a few specific issues.

Like balance (the factory engine is balanced within some spec, but not perfect) too high a rev causes vibration and wobble and bam!!!!

Weight and tension (like valve springs) don't respond fast enough at higher revs and you jam a valve into a piston, etc.

Hitting rev limit and having the throttle fall off should not do a damn thing other than prevent further reving.
