Bad Gas Mileage

Noticing my 2004 G35X is averaging around 200-230 miles on a full tank of gas. I am pretty sure I used to get around 300-315 before filling up. Now, I used to drive mostly highway miles, however I am mostly driving on regular roads to and from work. I only drive about 6 miles average per day. Maybe a bit more on the weekends if I'm moving about town. I use regular gas, but I've used regular gas for quite some time now. Any suggestions on what it could be?

Thats your answer. in the city you will average about that much on a regular basis due to frequent acceleration/deceleration.

The highway is a different ball game and you can get (at least I do) nearly twice the mileage driving on the highway in the summer, versus winter driving in the city.
I, too, drive 5-10 miles for work every day.

That's normal. You're driving a VQ you should know better. lol I'm about 400kms per full tank now which I think is better than my 04 before for some reason (I have an 05 now).

I've come to the conclusion that unless you drive on the highway with the cruise control on...you are gonna get crappy gas mileage.

My experience with my two cars.

There are two routes i take to get to work. One is 99% highway, the other is all backroads doing 35-40MPH hitting lights and such.

'12 Benz C300. 27-28MPG highway, 20-21MPG city route

My '06 G35x 26-27MPG highway....15-18MPG city route.

Well, that reassures me that there isn't anything wrong. I never realized how much of a difference highway vs city driving. Thanks!!!

There's a big difference for high way driving. I did about 600kms for highway driving. But for my experience, even if you drive it hard or drive like a grandma in the city it won't make a difference.

Yup I tried my best to drive "normally" and like a grandma and it totally didn't make any difference in city driving...always getting around 18-19mpg.

Yup haha someone told me this before and I just didn't believe him so I tried it myself and it really didn't made any difference that's why I don't care how I drive now haha

I suggest having lots of fun driving the car in town because you will get crappy gas mileage regardless. I've gotten 24 mpg on the highways before, but I normally get around 15 mpg driving around my hilly town.

Yeah it blows.

Wanna see 1/4 tank of gas disappear fast? Go run some local errands for a couple hours.

I live in Atlanta, and I don't really do more than 5 mile trips. My 04 is definitely getting about the same range of about 220-240 miles on a tank. Woo for massive cities and crawling traffic

Just finished my first full tank with my 06', got 400km..
I thought it was pretty bad for a 75L tank, but after reading around, it seems normal

Check mileage vs gallons used. Your fuel gauge may be misleading

Even when I am doing mostly stop and go driving I get better than 200-230 before I need to fill up. Granted I usually don't fill up until the light kicks on, but still I average about 18-20 mpg when I do stop and go so that would mean I'm getting a solid 100 miles per tank better than you. Have you had your spark plugs replaced lately?
