Doors auto lock...sometimes

I left my car running while I ran into the gas station and when I came back out all my doors auto locked with my keys in the car while running. good thing the wife was home and ran me up the spare key. my question is why do the doors auto lock sometimes?

I know if you're outside the car and unlock the doors but don't open one fairly quickly the car will re-lock itself. Not sure about your situation though.

Do you or did you have an aftermarket alarm on the car?

^ This...

My alarm would auto lock on my Prelude every time the doors closed, whether it was running or not. I ended up always carrying around a spare key in my pocket until I finally got sick of it and ripped it out.

my alarm is regular OEM. it doesn't do it all the time. like maybe 1 in 30 times but at random intervals. it's just weird. I now roll the window down far enough to reach the lock whenever I hop out and leave it running

This is not unusual issue. I had this problem several years ago. Since I think this is a quirky problem that does not happen all the time, what I do now is to make sure all the doors are unlocked when I step out. Once in a while the driver side door still locks on me, so I just unlock it from the passenger side.

I'm not sure how it is with the 03-04, but the only time the doors lock on the 05-06 is if you unlock the door with the key fob, but never open it. After a certain period of time, the doors will relock themselves.

I notice this all the time when i get gas. I'll lock the car to go into the gas station (rough neighborhood...crackheads like to randomly go through your cars) and when i come out, i'll hit unlock to pop the gas cap and fill up. When i'm done, i'll find the doors locked

My car does the same thing. Once in a blue they lock automatically wether I take long or not. It rarely happens though. What I did was get a copy of the key and got one of those magnetic cases and put it on the undercarriage of the car, near the exhaust

There is a chance you locked the door with your left leg...IDK I'm fat and sometimes I might accidentally lock the doors with my leg and when I'm trying to get out go WTF? Could just me.

Youre saying it like its leaving the car unatended while drinking a slurpee at 7-11. No closing the door to grab something from the trunk, door closing by itself by accident when youre out of the car which it oftentimes happens, closing the door to wait for someone outside the car and not letting the AC out etc etc

I leave keys in the car when I'm not away from it for more than a minute. I'm sure I'm not the only one. the odd thing is it only does it randomly...

I've had this happen as well and I had to call tripe a. Now I roll down my window a bit whenever I get out with it running, and of course it hasn't happened since.

Some people have houses with driveways neighborhoods where you can trust your neighbors so it's not uncommon to jump out for a quick sec.
