Problems Filling up My Gas Tank

Hi all, so I have been having a problem with filling up my car with gas. Every time I get to about 1/4 tank, I usually fill up my tank. Lately at certain gas stations I put the gas filler in my tank and set it on its automatic setting to stop when its full. Well, when it gets about halfway it stops as it should normally, if it was full that is. But I know that it isn't full because I only put 6 gallons in and I should be getting about 15. I try to manually top it off put it wont even let me do that. Second off, I have investigated and it is not a faulty fuel gauge or any gauge, because at some gas stations I can completely fill up no problem. I'm starting to wonder if it is a problem with a gas stations equipment or something with my car. Hopefully some of you guru's out there can enlighten me, so I don't have to drive a block to pay 15 cents more for gas at a station that works.

try a different pump at that station. then try another location.

at least you're only facing a mechanical problem. my problem with filling my gas tank is that it costs too much money

Well, there's that problem too, which is why I hate to have to drive a block for 15 cents off a gallon. Like I said though, It seems to be at certain gas stations, When I tired different pumps I had the same demise. Just trying to figure out (and hoping) that it isn't something with my car.

There is a DIY fix for this on here. I had that problem too but noticed only at certain pumps at certain stations.

i remember a thread a while back one guy took his whole gas tank apart. He found that the filler hose going from the nozzle, where you put the gas in, to the tank was two layers. the inner layer had delaminated and caused a stricture in the hose, causing the pump to stop prematurely. the only way he could fix it was to install a new hose. if i remember correctly it was not a cheap fix.

I had the same problem with my old Chevy Astro, but I wouldn't be sure if they had the same cause.

All I needed to do with that was pull the filler nozzle out halfway from the gas tank. It would sometimes take a while for the nozzle to hit a "sweet spot", but then it would fill up like normal.

Again, not sure if it's the same cause, so I'm not sure if this would work on your G.

If you find this issue happening, put the nozzle in upside down. Just be a little more attentive as the auto shut off might not work in this case. It usually does but just in case

Yea it looks funny but it works lol

Plus one, here. I have the same problem with the auto shutoff every 1/4 gallon, and turning the gas nozzle 180 degrees works every time.

Orrrrrrr..... You could address the TSB on this issue and look like a normal person filling up their gas.

Nah, I don't drive a coupe and have some muscle mass. Therefore, it's rather easy for me to rotate the gas nozzle. Also, since I don't drive the coupe, it's pretty easy for me not to be too concerned about what I look like all the time.

But, seriously, the number of times that this has happened times the minor adjustment it takes at the gas station vs. the time it would take to look up the TSB and fix it myself or go to the dealership just doesn't make it worth it.

When did I turn this into a problem about having four doors instead of two. I have a sedan and a coupe.

I will have to try turning the nozzle upside down, if that works it will suffice for the time being, somethings as long as they aren't too big of an issue or annoyance. Maybe someday I will actually fix it.

Did it fix the issue by turning the nozzle upside down?

Best of luck on anyone trying to replace the shutter valve listed in the tsb above, I have done a ton of them and they are all a pain in the ****...especially if you have long arms or any mass. I think Infiniti and Nissan expected a 4th grader to be replacing this thing. It does take care of the problem though
