Exclamation 2005 g35 engine shut's off and rpm drops drastically

First off I tried searching for a related thread to no avail, so if anyone knows of a related thread please let me know.

Yesterday while facing horrendous traffic on the freeway, my cars RPM dropped down drastically almost causing me to stall. It picked back up luckily and I was able to make it to the gas station by my house. Once I filled gas and got in my car, the engine wouldn't start. All the lights, radio and seat warmers were on. It wanted to start but couldn't kick on. It made that kekekekeke sound. The lights didn't dim at all, it was purely engine related. But none of the warning lights came on before or after the stall.

Now I called a tow truck and made sure I didn't have an oil leak problem again (due to a bad oil change, they didn't tighten the filter , never having someone else do it again, first and last time.) Someone came over to try and help me and they had me start the car again and voila! it started. About 20 min later, I still had it towed because the RPM was dropping. Now my brother thought it was a lose battery cable and tightened and it worked fine. Thus I thought the problem was solved.

Went to work this morning fine, parked and once I started getting my stuff together the engine shut off again. Tried turning it on again, same thing wouldn't kick on.

Anyone have similar problems before I waste my money at a dealership, especially if it's something I can fix at home.

Sounds like you possibly have a mass air flow sensor going bad. You would need to hook it up to a scanner to read the alpha readings. Try loosening the 2 screws for mass air flow insert, pull it out and look carefully at the hot wire and see if there is a hair or piece of visible trash touching hot wire inside mass air flow sensor. Hope this helps, you might be able to blow it out or clean it and fix the issue.

Hi infinitidude, I just actually figured it out. Turns out the crankshaft sensor was out. It took a while for us to figure it out because it wasn't throwing out a code until we started and restarted the car a few times testing some other sensors. Luckily once I changed it the problem desisted. Thanks for replying!
