Hey guys I have an 04 G35X with 104k on the stock suspension. I have been reading and it seems like Tokico HP's are 30% stiffer than stock. I just want a stock replacement shock and have been looking at the KYB GR2s. I had the KYB Gas-Adjusts on my other vehicle and liked them but heard the GR2s for that vehicle ride poorly.

Does anyone have the KYB GR2s on their G sedans? How is the ride quality? I saw a thread for KYB vs Tokico but it was for V36 sedans.

 

Good question. I have an 05x and was thinking the same as you. Hopefully someone will lets us know how the ride is. I dont want a ride where you feel every pebble on the road.

 

I installed KYB Excel G struts on the front of my '06x, along with coupe springs last year. They ride well, and are not too stiff. If you are strut shopping, make sure you buy specifically for the X front suspension, because they are not interchangeable with the RWD parts.





The reason why you need to have X-specific struts is to accommodate the curved bracket that goes around the front axle shaft.



I also bolted on Excel G shocks on the rear - no complaints about them either. I ordered everything through rockauto.com.

 

Thanks bro! I was shopping for them on Rockauto as well. Why did you go to coupe springs?

 

I wanted to drop the front a bit, just to even out the fender gaps between the front and rear. I left the original sedan springs out back. Plus, it was easier to have a spare set of springs on hand - I also bought new strut tops and boots so I built two complete struts, that way I had no down time except for removing the OG strut and swapping the lower mounting bracket to the new setup. Since the G is my only car, I didn't want to chance running out of time swapping parts. Hope that helps!

 

I replaced the suspension on the wife's '05 Maxima last summer with KYB G2's. The ride and handling were like a new car. I plan to do the same for my '06 G35x this summer.

 

Again, not on a G35, but I replaced stock with KYB GR2's on our I35 with KYB GR2's.They are noticeably stiffer, but got rid of the "floaty" ride, Definite improvement.

 

I put the KYB GR2's on last April along with H&R sport springs. The KYBs are not too stiff and have improved the handling over the worn-out OEM shocks. These may be the only brand and type that will properly fit on the X. The set-up was a bit stiff riding for about the 1st 1000 miles, then has "softened up" a bit and is not uncomfortable. Replace the rear swaybar too while you are at it.

 

It would be awesome if somebody could post the part numbers for the left front, right front, and the rear struts for the all-wheel-drive for the KYB's. That would be much appreciated and would reduce mistakes while buying.

 

KYB 341380 is the front left, and 341379 is the front right GR2/Excel G. The strut tops are KYB SM5542 if you want to replace them as well, and I ordered Moog replacement boots. The P/N is K90462 for them.

 

replaced aging oem suspension with KYB-GR2 about 1 year ago.

it rides similar to stock, maybe a little stiffer.

i think overall this car rides like crap anyway on oem suspension.

this car should have been badged a nissan instead of infinity.

absolutelly no refinements on ride quality, although road feedback and handling are pretty good.

 

Shoulda bought a q45 or lexus if you wanted a refined ride. This is a SPORTY sedan, not a luxury vehicle.

 

^^^ Uhmm, exactly. I feel it's a cross between comfort and sport, (doing neither one extremely well), but leaning more towards sport. Especially the RWD and 6mt.

 

I had my struts and shocks replaced about a year and a half or so ago. Went with KYB and thought the ride was a little too stiff, even after 1500 miles of driving. The guy at Big-O agreed, and we replaced them with Monroes. Those were a little better, and what I have been using ever since.

I had a similar experience on my old Grand Am GT...I thought the KYBs were too firm and ride quality suffered.

Aside from that, I know they are a good replacement option for quality.

 

Do you have the KYB part numbers for the rear shocks too? Appreciate it.
