My Various Newbie Questions

Not sure any1 has posted about this yet but I have recently bought 03 g35 sedan. I am curious if there is list of all of the compatible parts between g35, g37, 350z and 370z. I am sure there are some models I left out like the maxima, which I am getting ready to the Maxima VC swap. Throughout the year i am planning fixing everything wrong with the car, so come next year i can work on upgrades, but if there are compatible parts from over models that are an improvement from oem sedan parts i rather used the better parts for now.

There are lots of parts common to the G35 and the 350Z. One way to check is to look at car-part.com for a specific part. It will list parts from different cars that are the same. For instance, I found a radiator fan for my 300ZX that came from a Pathfinder. Same part.

I too just bought a 04 sedan two days ago, any information would be very helpful. The goal of this vehicle is to use all infiniti/nissan parts. Just as a different challenge rather then all the past cars I have modded.

p0345 and ruff idle

So a couple days ago I came home started my car, while letting the car warm up it shut off. It wouldn't start back right away took a couple time then finally started. Check the codes p0345 so pulled the sensor to check it out had some decent ware on it so replaced it aways without actually testing to see if the sensor was bad or not. Planning on planning on checking out the condition of the other sensor but 1st I want to figure out what's going on with car. Sense I have the it not really acting up while driving but when I come to stop or let the car sit idle after its warmed up car kind of sputters and misfires from 1 of the cylinders. It am thinking either 1 of o2 sensors or the cats are starting to clog. I have run the car a cheap obd data logger that's links with phone but it's not reading the miss fire or throwing any codes but reads all 4 o2 sensor those a pair to read correctly to the data logger. Curious how to check for a clogged cat, also been noticing a weird burnt smell I originally thought it was the coolant but was not that. So do clogged cats produce a burnt smell?

fluctuating fuel gauge

So I have a fluctuating fuel gauge, it stays pretty steady in 1 spot but never read the correct level. Thankfully it always reading empty before it actually is. Usually the gas light comes on when there is 4 to 5 gallon still left. How can go about figure the problem out?

There's a DIY somewhere on here to clean the sensors on the fuel pump/s. It's worked for some people and didn't for others. Seems like a hit or miss issue, some people have even had to replace their entire gauge cluster.

I chose to replace the senders rather than just clean them and this corrected my strange gas gauge behavior. Messy job working with gasoline (not my speciality) but it's doable. Tips; there's about 1.5 cups of gas in the fuel pump when you pull it which will spill out when tipped. And you need to replace the big blue O-rings - without getting any gas on them.

Here's one of the helpful threads:

what was the cost of the sensors?

I know the one without the pump runs about $50-75 pending on what dealership you talk to.

I cleaned mines out, it works a little more often but still reading is off. Its correct when i start up the car about 75% but as i'm driving it likes to think 5 miles can go from 3/4 ~> 1/4 or while cruising at 60mph, its getting filled up from 1/4 ~> 3/5 or full.

Ive just been doing miles driven and guessing at my fuel level. 300 miles max.

I think they were about $85 each (left and right) from infinitpartsusa. You don't need to replace the fuel pump, the sender unit on that side snaps on.

I have had problems with an inaccurate fuel gauge for a while now. Now when I fill up & the gauge shows full and takes about twice long for it to move down than normal & will show about half a tank when it's actually close to empty. One day i will get around to troubleshooting the problem but for now I just reset my trip odometer & know to fill up when I reach so many miles.

headlight housing?

I don't feel like buying all new headlights if i can i rather buy just buy the plastic back housing or repair. On the passenger side the top mount on the headlight is cracked, I had to do a quick jb weld job on it cause we had a little rain here a couple weeks ago and wanted to seal it up cause it let's lots of water in. Any places i can get just the main housing for the headlight?

Unfortunately no, you can't buy this part by itself. You have to buy an entire new headlight. You can always check Craigslist, or Ebay auctions and the marketplace for people selling used

Here are some places you can buy new headlights though.
