rear license plate light bracket rusted to hell

I have a rear license plate bracket that's rusted to hell. Looks like it might start falling apart soon. Need some advice on what to do to best clean off the rust and to make it last as long as possible. So far I've sprayed it with WD-40 for rust and am letting it soak overnight.

Dang, i would sand that off and spray paint it to seal it. Maybe bead blast as much of it off if you have access to a bead/sandblaster, but definatley seal it when you are done with a bunch of spray paint.

Your best bet is to do one of two things:

- Build a replacement
- Buy a replacement

Buy one of these from eBay.
"Single Bolt On 12 LED Universal White License Plate Light"
Use two small "mending straps" (about 2-inches long from hardware store or Home Depot). Bolt a mending strap to each end of the light. Put the other end of the mending strap behind the license plate and bolt/screw thru the mending strap.

I'd just slap some POR-15 on it and call it a day.

I just fixed my '97 Maxima with JimG35's LED strip. Now maybe "The Man" won't have a reason to stop me.

yeaa, mine completely rusted off and was just hanging there. I just tucked it up behind the bumper LOL. Gotta watch for 5-0 at night haha. Thats a fix before it hits the road when the salts gone.

Mine rusted bad enough that there was basically nothing left of it except for some small parts where it screwed to the bumper cover. On the website above, for a 2004 sedan, it gives a bracket part number of 96252AM601. It also shows a price of about $54, which, as most people said, is a bit ridiculous.

Anyone have a used one they would like to sell? Otherwise, I may try the 3M route.

Most rust out.
Buy a new one.
I just used some 3m tape and stick the light to the bumper. Worked now for 3 years. Clean the bumper good first.

A little cheaper on ebay. $49

Still ridiculous for what it is though.

Bringing this up again. I have the same issue where one of the lights is falling out. I need the P/N for a 2007. And any advice on how to get it off and replaced for those that have done this. The rear bumper does not have to be removed does it?
