Is the resonator delete worth it for 2005 G35 sedan? Ive heard the results from a videos sounds nice.

Does it sound as nice in real life? Any potential negative side effects? Is it completely legal/accepted for smog check in california? And about how much should it cost me?

Also is it relatively easy to put it back on should I ever decide to sell?

I have a stillen hi-flow intake on it right now, dont know if that makes a difference.

Of the threads I've seen it turns up positive reviews.

Although with you being in the golden state I think you have to get visually checked and I dont know if they will okay that.

 

The resonator has nothing to do with smog. You can change anything from behind the cats and be legal. Noise polution is another issue.

 

I don't know how they do things out there. What is the decibel ceiling?

 

The decibel ceiling in California is 95 db. Think itll pass that at WOT?

 

I just had a custom mid pipe resonater delete done on my 05X. I got a megan oe rs muffler and had it installed. It sounds great! A little louder than stock but deeper growl! I feel a better pedal response too!

 

Actually it is very vague:

27150.**(a) Every motor vehicle subject to registration shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise, and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

(b) Except as provided in Division 16.5 (commencing with Section 38000) with respect to off-highway motor vehicles subject to identification, every passenger vehicle operated off the highways shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler in constant operation and properly maintained so as to meet the requirements of Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200), and no muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass, or similar device.

(c) The provisions of subdivision (b) shall not be applicable to passenger vehicles being operated off the highways in an organized racing or competitive event conducted under the auspices of a recognized sanctioning body or by permit issued by the local governmental authority having jurisdiction.

27151.**(a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section 27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system so modified.

(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust equipment.

 

The resonator delete it fine. I own a smog shop in Cali.. anything after the CAT/'s is fine. Noise wise its not to loud either if your on stock everything else. My buddy just did it to his sedan the other day. Sounds good. With test pipes its a little loud though

 

I have hks rear section and am considering a resonator reduction (magnaflow) or delete. Has anyone done that?

For the 2005-6 guys. The 05-06 resonator is smaller that the 03-04, but the 03-04 muffler is smaller. You could get the earlier muffler for a little more noise.

 

Im happy with my set-up! Sounds nice with a little deeper growl.
Total cost $435! When you put your foot into her you hear it!

 

I have the hks rear as well. I have an 03. At first I didn't think it was loud enough but I took the resonator off and put a straight pipe instead. Now it sounds great and deep!
