Shift Assembly, Correct Diagnosis?

My 2005 G35x has recently come across two new issues, one of which the mechanic's diagnosis just doesn't seem right, at least to me. Hopefully, someone can shed some light on the issue and if it seems like a correct analysis.

The car just hit 100k miles. Recently I have noticed (randomly and every so often) when stopped a stoplight or stop sign and when starting to accelerate, the car's slip indicator comes on and grinds like I were slipping on ice, then catches and off the car goes (again this is sporadic). The tires seem to be fairly decent and it happens when the roads are dry. I took the car to a mechanic and they said the car needs a new Shifter Assembly as the Manuel Mode Switch is going out. This just doesn't sound like the culprit of the issue, but I am not savvy on this type of issue. Has anyone ever of this kind of issue or a symptom of this make and model? Does the diagnosis sound right? Also, they are wanting $500 for parts (whole shifter assembly) and labor.

My second issue is less of concern, but the drivers side power seat no longer moves forward or back on the left track, it makes sound (right side moves) and the left side of the seat moves in a semi-circular path like it slipped off the seat track, a cog went out on that side, or the gear is stripped. Any quick suggestions, I have a couple of DIY to look into to find the specific issue, but any suggestions or opinions would be great.. Thanks.

Don't know about the tranny but your seat issue is probably a faulty gear as you suspect. They're made of plastic and can wear out. You can purchase a new one from odometergears.com and it's a pretty easy DIY. Here's one of the threads on here that addresses the issue, there are more as well.

I think i would suspect an wheel sensor issue before the shifter in that case.

Not sure what's going on there but i'd hesitate to replace the shifter just yet

Looks like you were right on the gear. Only took me 6 bolts and a couple minutes to check each side.

Left Side Gear (Good Gear)

Right Side Gear (Stripped Gear)

Now if I can only find a cheaper part... Just bought one for $35.
