Window Tint Recommendations

Wasup guys,

I've been looking into tint for quite some time now and basically I want the biggest bang to my buck. I'm more of a quality guy over price. I've been doing some research and it seems that 3M Crystalline Window Tint is popular and durable -- as in it does not bubble or turn purple for many many years. I plan on tinting my windows according to NY State Law. Also, my car is a 2004 G35 Sedan. As of right now my car is a fishbowl and has 0% Tints. With this in mind what are your guys thoughts? Recommendations? Open to criticism.

make sure you get a good deal.. also, if you are worried about bubble or purple.. any quality tint will satisfy that. good luck.

Here's a recent pic of how my G looks with 35% all around.

As mentioned, quality tint goes a long way in keeping things looking good. I got my car tinted 3 years ago and it's held up very well, and my car is outside 24/7.

Thanks for the picture! Do you remember what brand you went with?

A quality shop will use quality materials. Over the years I have my cars done at Underground Tinting in Bohemia just off 454. I don't know what materials they use but I have always been very happy.

Keep in mind that if you a a stickler for the law, your car already has a slight tint built into the glass and that with a lighter interior (I have wheat) it will not look as dark.

I don't know what brand the guy used - I had it done by a guy over in Howard Beach. Not sure if he's still in business; his website was jttint.com but it's currently not working. He worked right out of the garage at his house.

i have ceramic tint. It is pricey, but well worth it. Not just cosmetic and actually blocks those UV's.

That gets overlooked a bit. I have a tint meter, and clear glass reads around 75-78% on the meter. Slap on 35% tint and you get (.78 x .35 = .273) 27% on the meter. So with 35% tint on my G, i get 27% on the meter. MA law is 35% MAX, but i've been fine so far (knock on wood).

I recommend ceramic as well. Summers are cooler since adding the ceramic tint.

imo 20% all around is perfect. About ~18% reading with a light meter. Don't mix shades, stay with the same all around. I had mine installed about 4 years ago and its flawless. I want to say it was a 3M ceramic film but I'm not sure. Tints turn purple from using ammonia based window cleaner, so stick to ammonia free cleaners. The law here is up to 35% around but the state of Illinois can kiss my a$$. I'll pay the subscription fees.

I also blacked out the chrome trim and door handles with black matte vinyl because the chrome stuck out like a sore thumb.

Blacking out the chrome trim looks great. I was considering doing the same with paint. I didn't think about going the vinyl route.
