2005 ownership experience questions
I'm seriously considering the 35x, with one reservation: my nearest infiniti dealer is about 60 miles away (Novi, Michigan). there is a local nissan dealer very close to me. what has been the 2005 owner's experience so far? how many trips to the dealer and for what? I can handle a couple of trips but if i begin to know the names of all the techinicians at the dealership, i may go with a vehicle i can service locally.

Well, I can't speak for the '05 but I bought my '04 back in July and it's been back to the dealer 4 times. The first time was for the first oil change at 3k (1). During this visit, I asked about having my windshield replaced (someone scratched the cr@p out of it, I'm guessing during prep). They weren't authorized to replace a windshield so I had to go back again when a factory rep was in town. I went back to the dealer when the rep was there and it only took 10 min. but I had to take time from work again to get there. (2). The windshield replacement was approved so I went back again to have it replaced (3). They replaced the windshield but when I picked up my car I noticed that they cracked my console and dented the shift bezel. I couldn't really blame the dealer as they didn't do the work but I was off to my dealer again a few weeks later to have the console/bezel replaced. (4)
The bottom line is the G is a great car, very reliable. We've had no mechanical issues yet. It's the quality of the dealer that counts. I still like my dealer anyway as they always make things right in the end. Good luck with your decision, if I still lived in Detroit the X would be a fine choice.

trout13... i have read about several g35 members going to nissan dealerships for their oil changes (since the oil filter is really a nissan part) and going to infiniti dealerships for the things like warranty work and big interval service (7.5k/15k/30k mile service jobs), etc. it may cut down on how many 60-mile trips you have to make every 3 months just for oil changes. good luck!

trout-My last 2 cars were Nissans and that Dealer was 50 miles away and it was no problem getting it serviced there. I only made 3-4 trips per year.
I bought my G35X and have had the car only 2 months but the Infiniti dealer is 85 miles away and I will probably get my servicing done there. The G35 is such a fun car to drive , I don't think it will be a problem.
But if you don't want to drive the distance you can get your car serviced at any reputable place, and just keep good records and receipts. The only reason you would have to go the Infiniti Dealer is for warranty work, and hopefully there should be very little or none of that.

I had repeated problems with CD's jamming in my '03.5 radio, but your car has the new & improved radio, so that shouldn't affect you. I've had the driver's seat rails replaced once because the seat was wobbly. Other than that, just scheduled maintanence. Check with your Nissan dealer to see which of the services they can provide. The standard oil changes are not a problem, but the bigger intervals -- like 30k -- make sure they have parts like the in-cabin microfilter, or if they have to special order, make arrangements ahead of time or plan on a trip to Infiniti.

I have a 2004, and i've had it for a year and a half, i've almost got 30k on it, so far this is what i've run into:
1) Change of brake pads at 25k
2) Paint chipped off, and not from rocks because it was underneath the chrome lining on driver side window right next to side windows, and there are no dent marks on it. (If anyone knows a good solution for this, let me know, infiniti said they won't cover it since it was caused externally?)
3)Service Engine Soon light came on @ 27k dropped car into 'safety mode', dealer has to reset the ECU, covered by warranty though.
Other than that, I love the car, especially the sedan version looks classy in jet black with chrome trims and willow leather.
Rides a little rough with stock tires, and not the best traction for New England weather.
