2005 Sedan Brake Feel - Too Soft?
I've own a 2005 G35 AT Sedan w/1,500 miles. While I'm quite pleased with the response of the right pedal, it's taking me some time to get used to the softer brakes introduced in the 2005 model. Some complained of the pre-2005 brakes being too "grabby" but I wonder if Infiniti went too far the other direction in making the 2005 brakes a bit too soft?
While driving when I first apply the brakes there is a fairly significant travel in the break pedal to achieve a particular deceleration force. To maintain a constant deceleration, I feel the pedal "sinking" somewhat under a constant brake pedal force. If I quickly release the pedal and then reapply the same brake pedal force, the brake firms up more quickly with less pedal travel. Do all 2005 G35's exhibit this behavior, or do I need to have my brakes checked? I've gone through the "Brake pedal check" as described in the owner's manual, and things check out OK.
Also, the manual has a section "Self-adjusting brakes" which says "Your vehicle is equipped with self-adjusting brakes. The disc-type brakes self-adjust every time the brake pedal is applied." What exactly does this mean? What about the brakes are being adjusted automatically? Could this be the cause of the varying pedal travel / pedal force to achieve a particular deceleration?

When I picked up my '05, the brakes felt a little soft. I didn't worry about it, since they were working good, just a little extra travel. But about 2 weeks after I got it, I had to make a panic stop in traffic, and since then, the brakes don't have near the travel. They're almost grabby, like lawboy says.
So while I don't recommend making panic stops (aaaahhhh!!), I guess the brakes are self adjusting.

The original 03 G35 brakes were very very grabby - to a point where I couldn't justify to buy the car. Since 04 they have improved upon the issue, and by 05 that problem has been eradicated. The new 2005 G35 brakes are different from the 03-04 generation. When pushed hard they have an excellent response as well.
