Maintenance Intervals

Need some advice... I was looking into the 3 suggested maintenance intervals outlined in the service manual. They show a Premium Maintenance, a Schedule 1, and a Schedule 2.

Is paying the dealer for a Premium Maintance really worth it? Looking at the premium maintenance inspections items, most of them are things like "check all lights", "Adjust Tire Air Pressure", "Check Washer Fluid Level", "Wiper Blades". I can do this myself and I'm sure they don't necessary check this when they know a car with 3,750 miles shouldn't need new wipers and the headlight prolly haven't gone yet.

I'm definitely going with a Schedule 1 Maintenance Schedule, but the dealer was saying that unless I had proof a "Premium Maintenance", resale would be sh*tty! Is this just a way to get me to have them do all my maintenance?

Any thoughts, recommendations, experiences are welcome!

Thanks,

Change the oil every 3-5000 miles and do a "tune up" at around 40K and check the fluids and inspect other things yourself. Who cares what the manual says.

i wouldn't completely trust a dealer when it comes to service. that's where they make the most money out of you. when you pick which maintenance schedule to go with, make sure you tell the service people right then and there EXACTLY what you want and don't want to be done or else they'll be throwing in these extras that you probably don't want to pay for. for example, when i took my 2003 sedan in for its 15k interval service, they replaced my windshield wipers. i had no problems with the wipers and the car was barely over a year old. good luck!

Brian,
I think most would agree with G35girl's skepticism with regard to dealers and if you like to unwind by pampering your car, great! Do it yourself if you can. As far as the dealer pushing the Premium Service in order to preserve resale value, I really don't think that argument has legs. My experience with selling my old cars to private parties has been that when I pull out my file and show what, where, and when service was performed, haggling is greatly reduced or eliminated. Just the fact that you keep records of repairs and share them with a prospective buyer gives them the peace of mind they need and separates you from the other used car adds.
Hope this helps.

Oil changes are a must, everything else is just 'INSPECT'. They charge you hundreds of dollars to inspect things that shouldn't break for tens of thousands of miles.

Change your oil and go in for 15 or 30k intervals depending on how badly you think you need it.

I have 12k miles and have only done 4 oil changes up to this point, I haven't had anything else done. At 15k I'll probably change the filter myself. I've already had an alignment because of the aftermarket suspension and tire rotations aren't necessary anymore because of my staggered setup (or should I say not possible). I may get the rear-diff and tranny flushed by them but that would be it.

Does anyone have the 15k list of things to do?

4 oil changes at 12K? Day-um!

I'm at 22K and just had my 3rd. Every 7500 baby.

...Any less than that and I'd be changing oil every other week.

My dealer claimed today that pretty much everyone who does the service does the Premium, and he didn't even know what the Schedule 1 service for 15000 would cost.

I'm going to have the service done this Friday, but at least it included tires rotated/balanced, a few filters, and I'll be having a scratch (though the paint) touched up so it doesn't start rusting. I'll see what their loaner is. I forgot to ask for a loaner at my 7500 service.

Yeah...the first thing I asked somebody when doing a trade appraisal on their car was "sir/mam, I have to ask you, did have the Premium Maintenance/Service done on your trade? If not, I'm going to have to penalize you on the value...LOL ...no make that LMMFAO ! JBX

Is there any maintenance items that is required by Infiniti to keep you under warranty? I prefer doing the maintenance myself, with the exception of a 15,000 miler or something. And I think I'm going with a Schedule 1.
