Exclamation Rattling when accelerating!

I'm noticing that when I press the gas I hear a rattling sound seems to be coming from my exhaust when in drive. I thought it may have been the heat shield so I had that checked and tapped just in case, but it wasn't that.

Does anyone have any ideas what this is? Thanks

Same issue with me, if I'm in the wrong gear and put my foot down it rattles until it brings the rpms up. Got the car up on jacks currently

If you're sure the noise is coming from the exhaust and not your engine because you're using less then 91 octane gas get put car on a rack. Look for an area where your pipe comes in contact with the frame. (bang on it) Often one of the hangers fails/slips allowing the system to shift so it makes noise hitting the suspension/frame! If you have a loose converter cover have your local muffler shop weld it, wire hanger or tape isn't the correct way to fix the issue and it won't go away!

Nothing under is loose because the muffler shop lifted it and it has been checked for anything loose.

You may be right with the cheap gas as for I usually use the lesser one.

The noise is from tail pipe area seemingly but car in park just passing gas won't duplicate sound.

Ahhh the ol' mystery exhaust rattle. Took me a year to figure mine out.........its inside the muffler.
With the exhaust warmed up, crawl under there and give it a good shake (with gloves remember), you should here some rattling in there. At least thats what my issue is.

I am also assuming you have a stock muffler......

I kinda have same problem..can't tell where exactly it's coming from but I'm pretty positive it's around the exhaust system..everytime I hit the gas semi aggressively I hear a metal sound rattle for a second and goes away..

sounds a lot like detonation. If you exhaust is causing a rattle, it should do it on and off the accelerator. You should be using 91 octane or better to minimize detonation. If your still detonating with 91, you want to go over your engine mechanically and make sure everything is in order. Also, I've had instances were a bad MAF (no codes) caused detonation so cleaning or better yet, changing your MAF is not a bad idea

Without hearing it directly, i'd guess broken cat converter heat shields, or detonation.

+1 on broken cat heat shields

Mine also had a break in the pipe at the rear bracket where it connects to the muffler. I simply cut off the broken bracket and replaced with a 4" stainless steel female adapter to slide in the 2.5" pipes on each side. By the looks of my stock exhaust I probably only have a year or two of MI winters left on it.

No rattle and my car is quiet once again. Good luck.

Yeah, New England winters have taken it's toll on my exhaust pretty badly. At 150K miles, the exhaust is the worst part of the car, and i've had to have a few patches welded in.

Right now all my cat heat shield spot welds are broken, and my car sounds like a kazoo when I accelerate.

One of these days i'll get under the car with a cutoff wheel and just hack all the shields off.

Does it do it in neutral or park at a stop?
