G35x 2006 DTC P0014,P0011,P0021
Hi! So I'm hoping someone on this forum has run into a similar issue before. I'm a tech working on a 2006 G35x sedan. I'm not real familiar with Infiniti's but I did utilize the FSM to do this job.
The background on the car was that it was overheating in traffic, but would go away if you kept the rpm up. The owner paid another shop to have the t-stat and coolant changed. He then self diagnosed and asked me to change out the water pump for him since they were charging a hefty $1500 price tag... I also suggested the chain tensioner to be replaced.
As I start, I notice this engine (VQ35- HR)does not have the small access panels for the tensioner and pump like on the Z cars. So yeah, I get to pull the timing cover off. I replace both items and go back to reinstall the tensioner and it jumped a tooth so I re-aligned based off my previous chain markings and think nothing of it. On start up, I get the P0014/11 code. Figured I jacked up the timing chain and I decide to redo the whole job. I used this to set timing-
You can't see the markings lined up here, but this is post install-
I didn't notice anything abnormal other than maybe a tooth off on the passenger side. I put everything back together and now I get the P0021 code too.
The good news is the over heating problem went away because it turns out the t-stat failed shut so I replaced that while I was in there after boiling to verify it was not opening...
Oil PSI is normal
Car runs like a top
Timing tries to advance to almost 50* at 2k rpm
The gasket on the back of the timing chain baffle plate looked fine
Solenoids to engage with 12v
O rings/ gaskets look ok, but I didn't not replace any.
TIA Infiniti specialist!
