Help with 2004 G35 Sedan Headlights
Our 2004 G35 Sedan had bad oxidation on the headlights assemblies. We would simply like to replace them. We took the car to an auto place and they removed the oxicatiaon but it came back after 2 months. We were looking on ebay we notice that some or the assemblies are halogen and some are HID. How can you tell the difference? Can it be done without taking the bulbs out? Also, can I just by replacement assemblies and keep the internals? I just want a cheap replacement. Thanks for any help you can provide.

They can be removed but it's not an easy process. basically you bake them in an oven to soften the glues and remove them and then try to reattach. How well the process turns out depends on your skill level.
With my headlights I resort to polishing and waxing them every 3-4 months on my own. There are many plastic polishing products in the market and i've used PlastX with good sucess. basically you just hand polish the lens, and then coat it with a few coats of wax. Lasts a bit of time too before you have to redo.
I've been doiung this to my '06 for 6 years now. It's a bit of a Pain, but i still get clean clear lenses when I do it.
Unfortunately aftermarket HID housings are non-existant and/or fit like junk so I'd rather just clean my own lenses

I wet sanded mine and used upol#1 -automotive clear coat in a spray can. Over a year later and mine are still clear and look like new. I highly suggest it because it cost less than $40 with sand paper and clear coat. Here is the process using a different clear. Upol #1 has uv protection in it.

Kinda curious to the quality of these. I might have to give it a shot. As much as i take care of my OEM lights, they really could use a replacement.
