Oil Catch Can
Oil Catch Can
There, when searching the web, seems to be so much discussion concerning oil consumption but the opinions presented are all over the place from needing engine rebuilds to just changing oil weights. So here is what I am thinking about doing, I live in Charleston, SC. I was going to change my oil type to 10W-40. I want to put an oil catch can on the engine. In order for this to be most effective, it needs to be a baffled catch can, yes/no? I would love to hear different opinions on whether or not I will be wasting my time. (and yes, PCV valve and plugs have been changed)
Thanks for the help.

Hi Gomer! No, the catch cans doesn't need to be baffled! I started with the Home Depot plastic can 9 years ago and progressed to the C6 Vette can I'm using now, they work perfect and have no baffles. There is no reason to change your PCV valve Gomer, they are easily cleanable with carb cleaner. If you shake em and they rattle they're good! Even changing the brand of oil you use can slow down OC! Try using 10W/30 before going heavier...Gary
Yes, you are trying to remove "free" oil from the PCV hose, not oil "vapor". If you want to go after that also, you could stuff the can with Stainless steel scrubbing pads to give the oil something to condense on and it can drip to the bottom, but I thing you would trap more water vapor than oil.
Gary, do you have a pic of the Vet can?

The cca can is 2 part\baffled i suppose, and that will be better at vapor reclamation but to be honest oil vapor is normal, its the literal stream of oil droplets that plague the v35 pcv system.
but since the CCA can is 100$ .. and most "good" catch cans are in the 40-50$ range i;d say go for it and get a CCA can.
Cant find it ATM but someone has a pic of a mounted CCA can here in the forums .. says he used the included hardware to mount it in the back along the passenger fenderwell..
